Dan Crenshaw May Be the New Republican "YouTube" Star - Granite Grok

Dan Crenshaw May Be the New Republican “YouTube” Star

During Chris Christie’s first term as governor his recorded conversations with voters, union reps, any manner of constituent became known as Chris Christie porn. The way he questioned the union and establishment status quo in New Jersey Town Hall meetings was thrilling to watch. And he’s an establishment Republican sort of guy. Since then Trey Gowdy has had the same distinction. Gowdy’s prosecutorial expertise has made for many hours of quality viewing as he questions those called before his committee.

They were like YouTube Stars. Must watch video.

Dan Crenshaw Could be The New Guy

After watching Dan Crenshaw delicately challenge those repeating the stale narratives of the day on Face the Nation he may be on his way to becoming a must-watch politician in 2019.

Here, Dan Crenshaw does an excellent job of just asking for examples and punching holes in what has become boilerplate rhetoric for the entire political/media establishment. That Trump’s existence somehow endangers liberty.

Here’s a partial transcript with comment from of The Federalist.

“What democratic freedoms have been undermined?” Crenshaw (R-Texas) responded. “We just had an election where we switched power in the House, democracy is at work, people are voting in record numbers.” Crenshaw said whenever people make “this broad-brush criticism that the president is somehow undermining democracy,” he wants to hear examples of what they mean.

The entire panel erupted. Incoming freshman Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Penn.) listed off “judiciary, CIA, FBI, the voting process” and “undermining the free press,” which Neguse echoed.

“How has he done that?” Crenshaw asked. “The Obama administration had many press members under investigation, Trump has not, so what is the difference here?”

Dan Crenshaw is no Trump Homer.

He’s expressed a fair share of concerns about the Presidents tactics. So this “defense” is compelling because it is genuine. While he is not a fan of the stuff they could all agree needs improvement he politely gives no quarter to the standard straw man of the day.

That, in my opinion, is a great beginning and someone who may be worth watching in the months and years ahead.
