NH .223 Day of Resistance — Commentary

Saturday afternoon about 400 patriots met at the New Hampshire Capital to show their support for, and commitment to defending, the Second Amendment to the US Constitution:  “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Many attendees, as an expression of their rights as law abiding American and New Hampshire Citizens, brought their weapons with them.  If one listened to liberals, one would think that all these weapons, perhaps 300 of them, were broken because not a single person was murdered or injured or even threatened.

The fact is that the front of New Hampshire Capital was probably one of the safest places in the nation Saturday between noon and 2 PM.  Of course, you are most likely safer in any place at any time in New Hampshire than in almost any other place in the nation, and our respect for the Second Amendment and our New Hampshire Constitution are certainly significant reasons for that.

One of the disturbing things we learned this afternoon is that New Hampshire Democrats are trying to restrict our Constitutionally guaranteed rights to bear arms.  Democrats  have submitted several bills to restrict the rights of law abiding citizens and impact their ability to protect themselves and their families.

Apparently Democrats think that it is unfair that New Hampshire is so much safer than the states and cities where Democrats have enacted strict gun control laws.  We know how much the Democrats care about workplace safety, and it is true that when law abiding citizens have guns, it can create an unsafe environment for criminals at work.

Nevertheless, providing an unsafe work environment for criminals as we have in New Hampshire is much more desirable than providing an unsafe environment for law abiding citizens which is what Democrats typically create in the States and Cities where they have had political power for many years.

The whole nation would be so much safer if Democrats cared even half as much for law abiding people as they do for criminals, but that would jeopardize a reliable Democrat voting block.

Sadly, the Second Amendment is not the only one of our rights that are under attack by Democrats and even some Republicans.  Just about all our Rights identified in the Bill of Rights are also under attack, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, Freedom from loss of life, liberty or property without Due Process, protection of other rights not specified in the Constitution, and retention of powers by the people and the states of powers not specifically granted to the Federal Government.

Unfortunately the blessings of freedom and prosperity that resulted from the US Constitution given to us by our founders have made us complacent.  And, we have forgotten Benjamin Franklin’s words, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

We have trusted our politicians and allowed some of our rights to be infringed to meet a temporary need.  But, we have found that our politicians are not to be trusted and now we must (legally and politically) fight to restore all our liberties and keep them.

Saturday afternoon’s gathering identified past and current attacks on our rights and liberties and of the need for Citizens to constantly fight for our rights and liberties so that the American people can continue to enjoy the blessings that our Constitution has made possible.
