I quoted Chuck here in this post:
In the current state of play, moderate gun owners have become convinced by the NRA and other, even more radical gun organizations such as Gun Owners of America that the goal of all gun-safety advocates is to take away their guns. These owners view even the most reasonable gun-safety proposals with suspicion, fearing a slippery slope to a ban on firearms. This paranoia is what gives the gun lobby its power.
Well, looks like there ARE people, possessing sufficient power, to try grease that slippery slope. Oh sure, there will be tender words from the Left of compromise and “no, we won’t take your guns away”. However, their level of compromise, in taking advantage of this emotional crisis, will be this; if 100 is where we are now, and 0 is absolute confiscation, I have no doubt they believe that a 12 will be a “good compromise”. Why do I think so? Here’s just a few; I am convinced that more will come flocking out, especially as they see political opportunity to quickly move a Progressive goal of effectively disarming the populace, especially the red states.
- US Rep Ron Barber (D-Ariz): I want to see legislation enacted that takes away the availability of these kinds of weapons that can do so much harm in such a short period of time
- Judge Larry Burns: To guarantee that there would never be another Tucson or Sandy Hook, we would probably have to make it a capital offense to so much as look at a gun….Ban the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer and possession of both assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Don’t let people who already have them keep them. Don’t let ones that have already been manufactured stay on the market.
- NYC Mayor Bloomberg: he would go farther than the 1994 ban and outlaw all automatic and semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines. The mayor said magazines shouldn’t be allowed to contain more than five or even three rounds.
And then
NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo actually came out and made it quite plain what the end game may well be – a ‘0’:
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that all options, including confiscation and “mandatory sales to the state,” would be on the table next month when the New York State Legislature debates new gun control measures. The comments were specifically aimed at what might happen should stricter rules be imposed on “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Why is it that politicians don’t trust the ordinary folk who never commit a crime or just like to collect and use for sport, defense, or hunting with guns? I can see a lot of unemployment coming soon (one of the few bright spots in the country has been the small civilian arms industry) for for, as President Obama said, ideological intent. And they won’t care that they will be hurting the “little folks” who work the factory floors (just like when they slapped the luxury tax on yachts; the people who got hurt were not those buying the yachts but the people who worked to make the yachts).
Progressives do not trust the ordinary person – they fear them to never make the right choice. And certainly, they don’t trust them with guns.
And they certainly do not trust, or like, the Constitution’s Second Amendment. For they know the real reason why the Second Amendment is to prevent a tyrannical government from taking over the people. Progressives don’t understand, or know it completely, that the Second Amendment was just not about the British during the Revolutionary war. They complete deflect its needs by saying “who would attack the United States, so who needs their own guns”?
Sociopath Liberals simply don’t leave other people alone to live their own lives because they demand everyone participates in their empty ones.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Without the second amendment there is no need for the first.
The second amendment was written to keep the government in check, not so we could go hunting. It’s there to prevent a government from becoming tyrannical over its people. But go ahead America, willingly disarm because it feels good. Disarming has worked so well for those who have done it in the past, just ask Russia, china, Germany, oh wait you can’t ask those people because they are dead from their government.
It is my belief that people are beginning to understand that Progressives are bringing us to that tyrannical government the Founders feared, slow inch by slow inch. Some Progressives understand this well and try as hard as possible with the “how could it be, Government is us!” as if that was the explanation. But when you look around, seriously look, at the endless laws and regulations that constrain what, when, and how we live our lives, we can see that we are on the glidepath of decline, not by an invasion from beyond our shores, but from inside those borders.

Co-founder of GraniteGrok, my concern is around Individual Liberty and Freedom and how the Government is taking that away. As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us. As a TEA Party activist, citizen journalist, and pundit!, my goal is to use the New Media to advance the radical notions of America's Founders back into our culture.
