Nothing says real volunteer grassroots like “pay is $12.00 an hour”, eh Mark Fernald?

From a reader comes this missive from Mark “I WANT AN INCOME TAX on NH workers!!” Fernald.  I guess it is a NH Democrat Value that “Grassroots” doesn’t mean what it does to Conservative activists – not just the passion about an issue or candidate, nor for the feeling of banding together voluntarily to get something done.  That’s all that most Conservatives want.  It seems, however, that not enough Progressive activists have the will – I guess “being passionate” comes with a price tag (emphasis mine, reformatted to be more bloggish):

Subject: PAID canvassing!
To: <redacted>

Dear Readers:

Here’s an opportunity to do some paid canvassing in the next five weeks.

Mark Fernald

Grassroots Solutions ((www.grassrootssolutions.com), a national political field organization, is looking for dedicated individuals to join its New Hampshire Democratic Canvass Team 2012 and go door-to-door to talk with New Hampshire voters in Manchester and other areas in New Hampshire about the upcoming election.  Maybe you are a student with no afternoon classes, a parent whose children are off to college, or someone who works the night shift in your current job but would like to earn extra money. If you are at least 18 years old and enjoy talking with people about important issues that affect their lives and the lives of their families and community, then we are interested in hearing from you.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in the world of politics. It is a fast paced and dynamic job in a Presidential election year.  The pay is $12.00 an hour and you have the potential to gross over $2,500 between now and the November election. You will be paid either by check or direct deposit every two weeks.

Bilingual English/Spanish would be an advantage. Experience on a political or issue advocacy campaign would be great, but if you don’t have any, we will train. This is a temporary, full-time job (3-7 days a week).  You and your canvass partner will be expected to travel by car to neighborhoods assigned to you each day, walk door to door, engage in a conversation with voters, and record the results of your conversation in an iPod mobile app. Professionalism is a must, as is the ability and willingness to talk with a diverse group of people.   Accuracy, attention to detail, and honesty in reporting the results of your day’s work are essential. Previous campaign or advocacy work experience would be a plus, as would experience using computers and devices such as iPods. Training will be provided.

The position starts immediately and continues through the end of October. We work 7 days a week. Most shifts are around 6 ½ hours long — 5 ½ hours of which are spent talking to voters — in the afternoon and early evening. You and your canvass partner will meet with other canvass teams as a group at the beginning of your shift, and will get back together at the end of your shift to record your data.  It would be great if you could work every day, but we know that’s not always possible. We do, however, expect you to commit to work at least three full days per week. If you are interested, please apply online at http://www.formstack.com/forms/grs2012-nhrecruiting.  No emailed resumes, please! You will be given the opportunity to attach one during the online application process.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

The New Hampshire Canvass Team

Wow, I am surprised!  They want to pay cheap – what would the Unions say about undercutting their pricing? And not really hardly above what some of them want as a minimum wage – if they truly believed in what they want us to believe, they ought to be paying twice that amount to be consistent!  They must be getting desperate at the lack of folks that are willing to volunteer to push NH Democrat Values onto an unsuspecting populace; they must be running scared that:

  1. We’re never going to win if we don’t get our message out!
  2. PANIC TIME!  Nobody wants to walk around on their time to get our message out!

Well, I guess that the Democrat Organizers have to rely on the dreaded free market to do their work – and that mean that Progressive employers have to meet what prospective open market employee want for compensation. Dang, it’s that feature that Progressives hate so much – the competition where employers have to vie to attract employees.  I love it – they have to turn themselves inside out and use “the opposition’s economic philosophy” to get their own failure of a socialist / communtarian messages out.

But did you notice “ honesty in reporting the results of your day’s work are essential“?  It seems that the NH Democrat Value of “We Trust Government but NEVAH the individual.”  Like most Democrats, it seems that Grassroot Solutions (and Mark Fernald, by implication) have already made it clear that they have doubts that people would actually do the job they are hired to do.

Maybe it’s because of the actions of one of the Democrat Party stalwart supporters?
