Get “Used” to This – Part 2

Steve just posted about the “Death Panel” deciding that women don’t need as many mammograms as folks have had in the past (and forget PSAs for prostate cancer protection for men).  These expert wondertwits have decided, most likely, that the cost to Government is not worth it (you won’t mind, will you?).  The Left is all about the Imaginary War on Women by Republicans – let’s all remember that it was ONLY Regressive Democrats that voted and passed this pile of crap called Obamacare!  And now they are responsible for the new phrase “Just say NO! to mammograms!”

But wait! – they are turning to that wonder phrase of infomercials everywhere: “But WAIT!  There’s MORE!” (or NO, there is “no more”).  From Instapundit, we see that just having Govt control what Govt spends on healthcare is NOT ENOUGH!  NOW, these control freaks are talking about making illegal for YOU to spend more of your OWN money to keep yourself healthy :

(emphasis mine)

Free-market economists have long known that “controls breed controls.” In health care, leading Obamacare supporters are now proposing unprecedented new government controls over all medical spending — private as well as public — to “solve” problems caused by prior controls. Welcome to ObamaCare 2.0.

In a recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), several prominent Obamacare supporters have called for a binding “global spending target for both public and private payers.” In regular English, this means a government-enforced cap on how much Americans may spend in aggregate on their health care, both public and private. The co-authors of this article include former Obama administration officials Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel (former White House health care advisor and brother of Rahm Emanuel, former White House chief of staff), Dr. Donald Berwick (former head of Medicare), and Peter Orszag (former budget director).

The authors argue that current Obamacare cost controls do not go far enough. Although Obamacare will reduce government-sector health spending (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid), insurers and medical providers will simply shift those costs onto the private sector. To properly control health care costs (they claim), the government must therefore also control private health spending.

After all – you all private citizens just might make the Government look bad! Ask youself – are we the Land of the Free when these Progressive control freaks can make it illegal for you to spend $1,001 if they decree that your cap is $1,000?  Is this the kind of Government we need?  Is this the kind of Government we want?  Is this the kind of Govt our Founders had in mind when they drew up the Constitution?

This is similar to the situation that we find ourselves here in NH with just regular health insurance.  To recap, we used to have a slew of insurance carriers offering plans of all kinds of types – until NH State Senator (then Gov and now US Senator) Jeanne Shaheen decided that her SB 711 was going to have Government “solve” our health insurance problems.  What did we end up with?  Two carriers – great way to expand competition and lower prices / increase quality.  And she will NEVER, EVER take responsibility that her “Government Solution” caused a problem – which she was then behind the NEXT Government solution to fix that one: Obamacare.

It’s as if this was all done on purpose, wasn’t it?  And we were the chumps that let them do it to us.  Benjamin “A Republic, if you can keep it” Franklin must be rolling in his grave…
