PJ Salvatore at Big Journalism reminds us that in November 2008, the New York Times thought it best that given the economic circumstances, George W. Bush should just resign so we can fix the economy.
Salvatore makes a few minor edits and Ta Da! The NYT behaves with an uncharacteristic bi-partisan consistency by asking Obama to resign.
“Thanksgiving Labor Day is next week soon, and President Bush Obama could make it a really special holiday by resigning.
Seriously. We have an economy that’s crashing and a vacuum at the top. Bush Obama— who is currently on a trip to Peru to meet with Asian leaders who no longer care what he thinks busy partying and raising campaign cash— hasn’t got the clout, or possibly even the energy, to do anything useful.
His most recent contribution to resolving the fiscal crisis was lecturing representatives of the world’s most important economies on the glories of free-market capitalism the American people about how none of this was his fault.
If BushObama gives up doing nothing by giving up his job, it’s possible that someday history might elevate him to the ranks of the below average. Better than Franklin Pierce! Smarter than Warren Harding! And healthier than William Henry Harrison!”
Admit it. It has crossed your mind. Obama should resign. Save us all the embarrassment of another stupid speech or the next pandering expose by the propaganda media. And just think of all the money the left would have to spend on a primary, instead of just shoving it all into Barry’s re-election cubby?
