Protecting Your Vote

voteYou can probably think of a list of things you need a photo ID for but if you live in New Hampshire voting is not one of them.  HB 356 would change that.  It will require a valid state issued photo ID to receive a ballot and vote in person.

Democrats oppose the bill.  You can ask yourself all kinds of reasons why a political party is afraid to ask people for ID to vote?  But it is the same party that does not really care if you can prove much of anything.  They made same day registration so easy anyone can do it.  And anyone does.  (There is a bill to end same day registration as well, HB 223.)

The hearing for HB 356 today; 2/22/2011 3:00 PM LOB 308.

And by the way.  The state issues over 24,000 non-driver photo ID’s already.  The only thing new about this is that you will need to make sure you have it with you when you go to vote.
