Topics from this morning

Jeff Chedster was filling in for Charlie Sherman yesterday and today on the early morning show on 610 WGIR-AM here in NH and asked if I’d represent GraniteGrok in a "lightning round" format.  Here are the topics we touched upon and a couple of the links so you can read more for yourself!

  • Patriotic Millionaires demanding that the Bush tax cuts (now 10 years in the past) become the Obama Tax Cuts.  The obvious:
  • Paying taxes does not make you "Patriotic"; it merely means that you are obeying the law.
  • if they wish to "be Patriotic", they could just write a check and send it to the IRS.  That, we’d consider to be "Above and beyond" and leading by example – but thus far, have failed to do so.

Forcing others to pay more in taxes will not cure the debt problem – they are just enabling politicians to spend more (lacking any restraint to stop the spending).

Most voters say they think the federal government isn’t operating within the limits established by the U.S. constitution, a Rasmussen Reports poll indicates.

Forty-four percent said the government wasn’t functioning within constitutional limits, while 39 percent said it was, poll results released Tuesday indicated. Seventeen percent of likely voters said they weren’t sure.

Sixty-five percent of voters said they prefer a smaller government with lower taxes over one with more services and higher taxes, results indicated.

In a survey taken Friday through Sunday, 28% say Obama should have the most influence on government policy next year while 27% say the Tea Party standard-bearers should. GOP congressional leaders are chosen by 23%, Democratic congressional leaders by 16%.

  • Korea – the shelling of South Korea (our ally) by North Korea.  As with Iraq, it shows what can happen when wars are not settled by a victor and a loser.  This is a "no good situation" all the way around for everyone (except, perhaps, Kim Il Jong gets to continue to "bully until tribute is paid" while transitioning his son for his spot").
  • Ward Bird – this is the Moultonboro, NH man that was arrested and sent to jail for having a weapon on his own property trying to warn a lady (with not a "great past") off his property.  There is now a move afoot to get him pardoned, given the outrage of his fellow citizens just for protecting his family.  For more info, there’s a new website: FreeWardBird.org.  The ‘Grok will probably look into this more.
