Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) admitted Friday it’s “difficult to turn the clock back” on ObamaCare, but proposed making the law voluntary as a possible fix for consumers. “I think it’s going to be difficult to turn the clock back. People get assumed and accustomed to receiving things, particularly things that they get for free,” he told a crowd of students at Harvard’s Institute of Politics on Friday.
Paul’s comments echo those of other Republicans who have admitted it will be difficult to fully repeal the law after some of its more popular provisions took effect.
And he is right and that was always the argument all along – once the “free stuff” was rolled out, the smiling Democrats knew that their March to a Socialist end game would be that next step in shoving the Overton Window leftward. They just would never openly and publicly admit to it, always preferring to couch it in other terms that were politically acceptable. But if you stripped off all the Happy Words, that was the message: “We give you stuff Sadly, the only shot of stopping this in DC by the Legislature would have been for the House to refuse to fund it – a Constitutional step that exist given their control of the purse. And we saw them do what we feared – they wussed out.
This should get Pantaleon Florez III’s attention: you like being a “rent seeker”
Just 3 hours ago, Pantaleon Florez III left a comment on a post I put up about a month ago college grad schools complaining that because of Obamacare, the college that employed them had to cut their hours simply because of the economic realities forced upon it by Obamacare. My attitude at the time was “well, most of you voted for him, so decisions have consequences”. I’ve decided to respond here instead of in a comment. To recap:
A contingent of University of Kansas graduate students have launched a petition opposing a proposal by campus officials to slash the number of maximum weekly hours graduate student employees may work from 30 to 20 – a plan concocted by administrators to skirt Obamacare mandates. “We do not wish to see graduate employees lose employment opportunities that are crucial for paying their bills, feeding themselves and their families, and generally establishing a decent standard of living,” the petition states, according to the campus Daily Kansan.
Pantaleon responded this way (and I am attempting to show the quoting of my post so emphasis is mine with a bit of reformatting, parts separated by “*****”):
My post: “The world owes you nothing – not even a “decent standard of living”
The Comment: “All people who work hard deserve to be compensated in a way that provides them a decent standard of living. I have held a job since I was 14. I have worked hard for everything I have.”
This is part of our problem – too many people conflate compassion and economics and come up with a view that is neither. Effectively, you are demanding

You look at that, and you think to yourself: That looks a lot like the framework of an ad – complete with stock photos! – that the Shaheen campaign would very much like a third-party group to grab and turn into an actual campaign commercial, only the campaign can’t actually say that.
That day where Environmentalists lament that the rest of us have either have just ignored them (at best) or decided not to let them control our lives (at worst, from their perspective). Why should I let them – I grew up and live in a country where the foundation is personal Freedom and individual Liberty? I did not grow up in a collectivist society – yet that is what they are trying to create. No, not because it is supposed to make ME better (though that is one of their lame excuses: “it will be good for you!”) but they believe that they must do everything they can to protect “Mother Earth” – GAIA worship. Or sure, the next pretense is that wailed about is “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE”!
Note to clueless: we all ARE gonna die but just not generally because of your screaming at us. Know why? I’ve been listening to this crap for 50 years and almost all of the predictions the Green Totalitarians have shoved at us have turned out wrong. But, like the true inner socialists they are, facts don’t seem to matter. Here in the US, our air is MUCH cleaner, the river water doesn’t catch fire, and the land is far better as well. Smog doesn’t sting the eyes the way it used to, the water is safer, and we generally don’t have to worry where the kids play. Here’s some of them that were made back in 1970, courtesy of Big Peace:

If an Ohio based federal judge can mandate that all homosexual marriages licensed in other States must be recognized in Ohio (which does not recognize such), why shouldn’t my Second Amendment right, as practiced here in NH, right be recognized everywhere, too, before the Law? Voter fraud, that is. We’ve put up a lot of the names of the perpetual Democrat / Organizing for Obama [American socialists] that come here to work on campaigns, staying at Democrat “nest” homes, quick vote here in NH, and then skedaddle out to the next piece of work. We’ve caught the double registrants and voters – they won’t be happy when someone runs a background check on them in the future. But the Democrats keep insisting there’s no such thing as Voter Fraud. Well, here’s the next batch of “voters in multiple places” (emphasis mine, reformatted):
Over 40,000 People Are Registered to Vote in Both Virginia and Maryland
As midterm elections quickly approach, many are starting to think about voting and potential fraud at the polls. And once again, we find that there is cause to be worried about voter fraud here in the U.S. It appears in a new report that 44,000 people are registered to vote in both Virginia and Maryland. A vote-integrity group crosschecked the voter rolls in the two states and found far too many people registered in both states. The group, known as The Virginia Voters Alliance, is going to expand their research into surrounding states like Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Georgia.
First there was the coordination of the Lefty bloggers, political operatives, and “journalists” on messaging known as “JournoList” – a coordinated effort started by Ezra Kline to drive the same story the same way over and over again. That is, until it was discovered and then “stopped” (even as some still think that it still exists albeit in some other form).
I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you! There seems to be a “secret agent drop box” process at play on the Dem side – and Jeanne Shaheen is The Object Lesson of the Day. Yes, coordination. Between entities that should not, by law, coordinating on campaigns. The NRSC steps up to the blackboard for this lesson on political sleight of hand:
For some time, journalists and political observers have wondered how Harry Reid’s Majority PAC runs ads that always seems to be strategically coordinated with the campaigns they are supporting, since said coordination is prohibited by law. Now we know.
The Jr. Senator from NH was on the Howie Carr show as TMEW and I went out to do some errands right after supper tonight. We missed the beginning of her segment but it was clear that people were switching from talking about Obamacare to illegal aliens, immigration, and Amnesty. And they were not happy! And I really don’t think that Kelly Ayotte was all that happy about having to defend her Kerry-esque monster flip-flop on this issue as she had campaigned for really being against amnesty. The segment has already been posted over at WRKO.com and a rough transcript (automated? It really IS rough) is there as well (I have put the relevant part of the transcript after the jump). The title of this post comes from the fact that Howie went after her about deporting the illegals that are here. Howie does lay into her and almost all of the callers, especially those from NH, go even further All she could do is balefully try to deflect by demanding “I’ve not seen the plan” by which 11 million illegals would be transported as if Howie and his callers had to PROVE to her they had done her legwork – to fulfill HER campaign rhetoric!
Why not? On this issue, she’s given us the classic Establishment Republican “bait and switch” (aka “I was against it before I’m now for it”) when it comes to illegal aliens and Amnesty. She is now willing to support Amnesty as shown by her vote to pass the Senate’s “comprehensive immigration reform” bill as opposed to when she was campaigning. How do I know this? Well, this is why politicians hate to be recorded – and GraniteGrok was at the AFP/NH – Cornerstone action Senatorial debate on June 9th, 2010 when she was campaigning. I just transcribed her answer – here’s the money quote from her answer:
NH GOP Platform: Strongly oppose new taxes and fees, including an income, sales or capital gains tax
NH Constitution:
[Art.] 6-a. [Use of Certain Revenues Restricted to Highways.] All revenue in excess of the necessary cost of collection and administration accruing to the state from registration fees, operators’ licenses, gasoline road tolls or any other special charges or taxes with respect to the operation of motor vehicles or the sale or consumption of motor vehicle fuels shall be appropriated and used exclusively for the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of public highways within this state, including the supervision of traffic thereon and payment of the interest and principal of obligations incurred for said purposes; and no part of such revenues shall, by transfer of funds or otherwise, be diverted to any other purpose whatsoever.
Yeah, these 17 Republican “we’re for lower taxes!” Reps folded like wet tissue on the “Strongly oppose” bit when it came to vote on the gas tax (upping the gas tax by 23% to add another 4.2 cents per gallon on a price that is already skyrocketing before the summer season starts!) and supported the 96% of the Democrats that voted for it as well. As well as the Republican NH State Senator Raush that proposed it in the first place.
