GrokTV: Seacoast GOP Candidate Debates – Gubernatorial Part 1

Yesterday was the Seacoast GOP Candidate Debates (Exeter, Rockingham County, and Seacoast Republican Women) Candidate Debates – Gubernatorial, US Congressional, and US Senate) held at the Exeter Town Hall.  Being under the weather, Grokster Mike filled in for the livestreaming – new way for GraniteGrok in using some new technology.  Yes, not able to zoom in and the audio is not what we normally present – but that’s what happens when our dedicated equipment wasn’t available.  Adapt, innovate – overcome.  Solutions to those problems are now known and we’ll be trying to implement them as soon as we can.  In the mean time – if you have headphones, use them (better than your PC speakers).  In the mean time, here is the first video – candidates for the NH GOP nomination for NH Governor – Andrew Hemingway and Walt Havenstein:

For each debate sequence, the format is the same:

  • Opening remarks (above)
  • Formal Questions
  • Lightning Round
  • Formal Questions
  • Closing Remarks

…except here, we also have the opening ceremonies. Jeff Chidester served admirably as Master of Ceremonies in keeping on time and the candidates on point! After the jump, the Formal Questions for these two:

COEXIST – I’ve always hated that bumper sticker

Coexist is a fairy tale and here is the reason why: life is not a series of Kumbuyah moments.  Sure, there can be times when the lion lies down with the lamb but most of the time, the lamb is merely a mouthful: With Jihad, there can only be one… (H/T: Powerline)

Lethality is what it is, not in how it looks.

Target shooting, hunting, self-defense, military – it made no difference then and makes no difference now.  It is not the technology but the recognition of human nature is that some always wish to dominate others (“including their own government“); firearms are a way of voting no.  People are the “scary parts” – not lumps of … Read more

GrokTV: Seacoast GOP Candidate Debates – Gubernatorial Parts 3 & 4 (of 5)

Reality: Bird frying solar electrical site needs to burn fossil fuels to meet demand?

ivanpahSometimes, you just can’t make this up – the $2.2 Billion solar electrical plant, station Ivanpah (which needed Federal Govt to waive lots of regulations to get built out there in the Mojave desert) has been in the news for incinerating birds in flight due to it’s process of highly concentrating the sun’s rays to fire a boiler to run the turbines.  That would be up to 800 degrees F hot.  They call those birds “streamers” – is that ecologically sustainable in killing the local flying fauna?  I think that’s the Left hand dope slap to the Green Environ-wackos that believe we can only be “sustainable” by using solar instead of fossil fuels…oh wait!

But here is the Right handed dope slap for them – now they need to burn fossil fuels to meet demand:

Open Carry – I did smile when I read this

From Bearing Arms comes this story (go there to watch the video): Open carry has been getting tons of bad press over the past year or so, largely thanks to long gun open carry activists in Texas who have no idea how to successfully wage a public relations campaign. [Actually, they are idiots in some cases  … Read more

GrokTV: Seacoast GOP Candidates Debates

Mike is at the Exeter town hall for the Seacoast GOP (Exeter, Rockingham County, & Seacoast Republican Women) event where a number of the NH GOP candidates for various offices will be speaking later on (see here for the agenda).  We will update this post during the event.  Please note that we are trying to … Read more

The need for Government to honor our Right to self-defense is neither old, troglodytish, or un-Enlightened

of the Constitution? But your thinking it is.

Progressives denigrate those of us that stand on the Second Amendment by pompously saying “You don’t need that”.  The State will protect you, they say.  We are an Enlightened Society, they say.  We have Progressed past that, they say. The other “tell” from these folks, in trying to defend the notion that their outlook and world view should be yours is “I don’t know anyone that has / does…“.

Sidenote: whenever someone starts talking that way about individual freedoms that pre-date the Constitution, like the right to self-defense, you know that they are a Big Government enabler and nascent totalitarian – what you have or what you want posses (or even to speak) is none of their damn business (as opposed to the ’68 Camaro that TMEW says I don’t need)

Problem is that when they use the force of government to enforce that outlook on everyone, it shows their contempt for basic American political philosophy – and a handle on basic human frailties and nature of fallen Man.  This, in part, from Repair_Man_Jack at RedState (emphasis mine):

At this point the Missouri State Police relieved the local police of responsibility and ordered them to pull back from the scene. This created a vacuum that was immediately filled by thieves and looters. As shown in the YouTube atop the post. They decided that avoiding more bad publicity was better than taking the risk of stopping the looting of businesses and stores in Ferguson. When Fred Reed wrote his old cop column at The Washington Times, he encountered the same problem in Washington, DC when White officers were accused of racial profiling. He received the letter from an officer describing the “Just let them eat each other” philosophy of policing.

Fred — After having read your article on 11/20/00 I have to state that YES!! We on the P.G.P.D for the most part are now looking the other way. After almost [deleted] years on the job I find this disheartening but a necessary fact to survive in today’s, what appears to most officers, an ANTI-POLICE environment. We are even being told by some supervisors to keep a low profile so “you’re not next on the front page”! I became a police officer to help people [deleted] years ago in P.G. County . . . but I now share the attitude of most officers, just let them eat each other, we have to survive..

But isn’t John H Sununu a Republican that attacks Democrats?

Sununu Gnome 2.0The tax problem that Walt Havenstein has, taking a homestead tax credit that he should not have, is certainly making the news.  Yet, I thought this was rather amusing by former NH Gov and former NH GOP Chair John E. Sununu in a “rousing” defense of Havenstein in the UL:

Former Gov. John H Sununu, in the campaign’s release, called the (tax) bill an attack orchestrated by Democrats, pointing out that Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is a Democrat.  “That the Democrats are willing to use a gross abuse of power to attack Walt is despicable,” Sununu said in the statement.

Right.  Got it; merely saying O’Malley is a Dem is sufficient?  I dryly note that you didn’t discuss that fact that Havenstein VOLUNTARILY signed those tax docs – the bluster is only in that he got CAUGHT!  After all, if the situation was reversed, you’d do it in a heart beat (directly or via surrogates – your rep precedes you).  He’s like NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn in this regard – although her tax problems are Federal IRS and are seemingly > 10X the one that Havenstein is having.

Can’t the NH GOP do better? Some standard of a rather low bar:

Hemingway 2A Rally – what’s a 2nd Amendment rally w/out some machine gun shooting!

Being really under the weather on Sat means I didn’t get as much video as I should have – and certainly not enough of the automatic firearms. Two of the popular ones were the “Ma Deuce” (.50 cal. heavy machine gun – the Youngest’s favorite weapon while deployed to Afghanistan) and the 1919 (.30 cal machi1ne gun).  Here’s a taste of both:

From Government comes just DANDY advice!

“The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.”   – President Barack Obama, Inauguration, 1/20/09 OK, you tell me: is this “Government working”? Observation of the day: Obama isn’t even phoning it in anymore

“In recent months, Barack Obama has crossed an important threshold. He has always shown contempt for his opponents; now he shows contempt for his supporters. He has quit pretending to be a leader, and more or less quit pretending to be a president. On the right and the center, he has become a joke.”
