Notable Quote – David Boaz

Of course, in the modern world of trillion-dollar governments handing out favors like Santa Claus, it becomes harder to distinguish between the producers and the transfer-seekers, the predators and the prey. The state tries to confuse us, like the three-card monte dealer, by taking our money as quietly as possible and then handing some of it back to us with great ceremony.

-David Boaz (The Libertarian Mind)

A GREAT example of that here in NH was my Jr. Senator from NH, Kelly Ayotte (R) concerning bringing Federal tax money back to NH to fight the heroin / fentynal problem (no, it is NOT an epidemic – there are no pathogens traveling around the ether that make people addicted.  Instead, it is a personal decision to snort or stick stuff in your body that you just shouldn’t do).  I dryly note that she vote to break the Sequester bill – the bill that for the first time in a long time, cut the Federal budget and thus lowered the tax/debt level that lays across our shoulders – quietly taking more of our money.  I have YET to hear her make big big stinks about NH money leaving to trudge down to DC and doing something worthwhile in stopping that journey. But boy, is she all over the media

$20,000,000,000,000 National debt

Steve had a cute small but slashing post a bit ago: We are all ‘Children’ to Their Government When a progressive says “it’s for the children,” we picture kids. Considering how they’d like government to treat “grown-ups,” I think they are referring to everyone not just children under the age of “x.” I think this comment … Read more

John Kasich: “I got into politics…to change the world”

kasich - Med Exp illegals Common Core gun bans SSM

From that screenshot, can you tell him apart from any run of the mill Democrat (much less Hillary or Bernie, who share those values)?  Go here to see which NH politicians share those values by their endorsements (like Judd Gregg and John E Sununu).

He was quoted on WMUR on that line a couple of nights ago.  When I heard it, I just shook my head – what Conservative would say such a thing?  Conservatarians don’t want to change the world they want to, you know, conserve it.  We don’t believe we are the ones that should (or can) force large numbers of folks to change their lifestyles just because we think it would be better for them.  Oh sure, we may try to persuade them of it but ultimately it is their choice.

Obamacare – distorting in the Lakes Region

“…by the Affordable Care Act

Obamacare -Year of the SnakeOnce again, the blame resides entirely with Democrats for these job losses that otherwise would not occur – not a single Republican in the US House or Senate voted to effectively nationalize the nation’s healthcare and healthcare insurance industries.  And as we go further into it, we see that costs are going up, this Affordable Care Act is turning more and more unaffordable, and it is having large negative impacts on the “little people” that Democrats profess to be for.  Such is the transformation that Obama promised.  From the Laconia Citizen (emphasis mine, reformatted):

58 lose jobs at LRGHealthcare

LACONIA — Changes in healthcare delivery and resulting financial challenges led to the layoff of more than four dozen workers at LRGHealthcare in Laconia on Tuesday.  The staff reduction of 58 LRGHealthcare employees amounts to less than 4 percent of the LRGH workforce.

Academic Freedom on campuses today

You have the freedom to agree with me.  Else you are a homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic, transphobix, racist bigot.  How DARE you don’t want to belong to our monoculture!!!! (H/T: Liberal Logic 101)

Shades of TX Gov Rick Perry trolling CA and NY to “get” jobs – but FL Gov Scott trolling Yale?

This is funny as all get out – and EXACTLY what low cost States should be doing to the money-grubbing ones.  I put this post up yesterday about the deep Blue State of Connecticut eyeing more revenue by going after the endowment funds held by Yale with the main message of “theft by the point of a pen”.  The message was that private property really isn’t all that private when Legislators decide that “your’s is ours” under the Progressive rubric “We know how to spend your money than you do”.

And here comes Florida’s Governor Rick Scott rolling out the “tax free” carpet (emphasis mine):

Must be nice to be above the Law – and openly ignore it

The Rule of LawJust remember, there are consequences to decisions like this – and as Glen Reynolds keeps saying, wait for the Middle Class Anarchy.  So NC Attorney General Roy Cooper (Democrat) has decided that he can ignore a duly legislated and signed law (emphasis mine, reformatted)?

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina’s attorney general said Tuesday he won’t defend in court a new state law preventing Charlotte and other local governments from approving protections for LGBT people, calling it discriminatory and a “national embarrassment.”  Democrat Roy Cooper made the announcement during a news conference a day after gay rights advocates sued to overturn the law approved last week and signed by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

Our State Department can’t even identify the group targeted by Muslims: Christians

Yesterday was Easter, the most holy day in the Christian calendar.  While Christmas seems to get the main billing in our secularized society, it is only the remembrance of His birth.  Easter is the observation of Jesus’s Resurrection – the entire event that defines what Christianity is – that God was made Man while still being God and willingly dying on the Cross as a propitiation for our sins.  In Pakistan, Muslim members of the Taliban deliberately targeted Christians observing Easter with a suicide bomber, killing around 60 and injuring hundreds more.

So what do you think our State Department formally said about this?  Do you think this religiously motivated attack included, you know, words describing those religions? Er….

Blogline of the Day: Faced with an existential threat to Belgian society….

METAPHOR ALERT: Belgian Soldiers Deployed to Fight Terrorists Had No Bullets in Rifles. “It was just a show.” – just like our TSA – security theater.  Well, given what others are saying, the Belgian intelligence service has operated like a gaggle of Barney Fife’s, so perhaps reality should match perception.   (H/T: Instapundit)

Like I really care?

From Liberty Unyielding: If world leaders could vote, who would they want as next U.S. president? Liberalism – never a PERSONAL responsibility

After all, the good Samaritan PERSONALLY attended to the victim and PERSONALLY paid the cost for the victim and PERSONALLY checked in on him.  Progressives showed us, via enacting Obamacare, that they are all too willing to trade individual involvement for outsourcing that responsibility to “the collective”.  Which, as we all know, means no one … Read more

Data Point: Obamacare Insurace Company Participation

In more than by a 2 – 1 (21 vs 10) margin, more insurance companies stopped offering /refused to issue coverage than those starting. Bill Whittle: American Fascists

Yet another stellar video from one of our favorites – Bill Whittle:

Left/right, Progressive/Conservative, Democrat/Republican… The names change and evolve but the core difference remains constant: The Collectivists vs. The Individualists. In his latest FIREWALL video, Bill Whittle — TruthRevolt commentator and Director of the Firewall at the Horowitz Freedom Center — shows how violence, disruption and intimidation have always been the tools of the Collectivists.

Ivanpah collective solar – Feds about to shut it down?

ivanpahIvanpah is the multibillion dollar solar electrical generation plant that was built in the California desert a few years ago; we’ve written about it here, here and here.  Well, there were doubts aplenty then about it and now the bill is about to come due.  From MIT Technology Review (emphasis mine):

When it first came online in late 2013, the massive Ivanpah concentrated solar power plant in the California desert looked like the possible future of renewable energy. Now its troubles underline the challenges facing concentrated solar power, which uses mirrors to focus the sun’s rays to make steam and produce electricity.

Last week the California Public Utilities Commission gave the beleaguered Ivanpah project, the world’s largest concentrated solar facility, one year to increase its electricity production to fulfill its supply commitments to two of the state’s largest utilities (see “One of the World’s Largest Solar Facilities Is in Trouble”).
