OK, Fred Butler has another LtE in the local paper and, of course, he is off-point.  Not only off-point in the way that our own inimitable commenter Timothy (factual but of no real relevance in his own special Progressive way) but blames the BudComm for not cutting budgets.  To which I point out, he was part of that problem:

Fred Butler complains, again, in his Letter of today, of how little the cuts have been to the Municipal and School District budget that the Gilford Budget Committee has made over the years. He knows why – during the time I was on the BuddComm while he was there, I can’t remember a single time he voted in favor of saving taxpayers some money. In fact, near one of the end of BudComm seasons, he argued in favor of more money for the town employees along the lines of “think of the economic impact that would have as they spend it on Christmas presents”.

Shades of Bastiat’s broken window – he failed to mention the economic impact if that money had simply been left in Gilford’s taxpayers wallets.

Concord Monitor ran a Polti-“fact” piece on US Rep Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) calling for the arresting of any illegal aliens attending the State of the Union address even if they were a guest of a sitting (Democrat) CongressTwit; they rated it true that he did say it.

My response was:

As well as he should be; any and all illegal aliens should have been arrested and immediately removed.

Our country is founded on the Principle that no man is above the law – from the lowest station in life to the highest, we all should be subject to it. You may not respect the law; change it. You may think that the law is discriminatory, or immoral, or unfair; change it. Until then, obey it. It shows the depths to which this country is falling when our highest lawmakers in the land bring in illegal aliens – those that should not be here. They told the rest of us that both themselves and their “guests” are not subject to The Rule of Law even as they make new ones and expect us follow them; and they wonder why their approval rating is just above that of whale snot?

Even if he doesn’t, there’s a whole bunch of us that can and will taunt him with “See, told ya so!” as the Baby Daddy of Medicaid Expansion here in NH is finally meeting up with fiscal reality as the Sugar Daddy (the Feds) are tightening up their wallet and taxpayers here in NH are finally going to see Bradley’s decisions come home to roost as EVERY Socialist / Welfare program always costs too much.  Bradley thought he could violate the laws of politics with M.E. just like the Democrats did with Obamacare and now both are looking up from the well of fiscal woes (which will be our woes if it doesn’t get fixed; reformatted and emphasis mine):

Obama was right: “I won”…”You don’t like my policies? Go out and win an election“.  So, the Republicans did and Trump has certainly changed policies.  Pretty much all of them.  And made sure that everyone knew it – good news for us that voted to sandbag the Socialists None of those programs have been Progressive/Socialist in the least – while Trump may still not be a Conservative himself, he certainly is governing as one.  As I have said before, don’t listen to what they SAY, pay attention to what they DO!

So the Dems last night not only were sucking on lemons-on-steroids but had to listen to their LightBringer’s legacy, built on ephemeral Executive Orders, crumbling around them with a few Republican legislative efforts thrown in (deleting regulation after regulation via CRA, Tax Reform, getting rid of the heart and soul linchpin of Obamacare – the Individual Mandate).  And let’s not forget Trump signed an E.O. last night that canceled Obama’s E.O. to close Gitmo!  But last night, the Democrats showed what Socialists do best (when they’re not in power) – sore Loserville losers.  Here’s a list of the topics that they refused (with very few exceptions) to stand or applaud for:

– job creation
– higher wages
– lower African American and Hispanic unemployment rates
– bonuses for employees

Not even the Congressional Black or Hispanic Caucuses would stand for that – what, they want them POORER??

The Democrats loathe the tax reform that has kick-started the American economy. They abhor the return of American manufacturing and the bonuses so many companies have doled out to their employees. It was not so long ago that Obama essentially swore that “those jobs are never coming back.” “Crumbs,” billionaire Pelosi called their bonuses. The left today hates our military. They hate the notion of national security. Like Obama, they cannot abide the unfair advantage, as they see it, of American might, American success, and American freedom which they are always trying to impede, to restrict, to regulate and tax. The left has been doing its best to turn the United States into Venezuela for two generations. Progressivism is socialism. Venezuela is how it ends.

How and why have the leftists among us become so anti-American, so contemptuous of the Constitution, the Founders, and American heroism?

If the Democrats were looking bored, dour, angry, mad, and worse, they have much more to be worried about now.  Based on a snap poll from Monmouth University after last nite’s address, their desired Blue Wave Tsunami is diminishing into a ripple (emphasis mine):

Compared to its December poll, the new results (taken from interviews between January 28 and January 30) show big gains for both Trump and his party among registered voters. His December job approval rating, at 32 percent, was his lowest since taking office, according to Monmouth’s temperature readings. Now it has bounced up to 42 percent. Similarly, in December the GOP tax bill was notably unpopular, with 26 percent approving of it and 47 percent disapproving. Now opinions on the bill, after lots of hype about bonuses and cuts in tax withholding, are dead even at 44/44.

Worst of all for Dems, a 15-point advantage in the generic congressional ballot in December (51/36) is now down to two points (47/45). This equals the smallest Democratic advantage in any poll since the beginning of the current election cycle.

One of the warrants that will be brought up at my hamlet’s Deliberative Session this week is one that would extend the property tax break given to honorably discharged veterans – a snippet from the Laconia Daily Sun:

Veterans exemption

The warrant has a mixed 2-1 recommendation on expanding the veterans’ property tax exemption “to all honorably discharged veterans” with Grenier — himself a veteran — having voted against the change, saying he believes other veterans also would not want to shift their obligations to other citizens. Given the chance to reconsider his negative recommendation, Grenier said, “I thought about it a lot, and thought people would come out of the woodwork and lambaste me about it, but I haven’t heard anything, so I will stick to my position.”

I will be speaking out in favor of this motion even as it would result in a slightly higher amount of taxes for me; many put themselves in harm’s way in that many gave some, some gave all.  This is all about respect and honoring sacrifices. I disagree with Rags (his nickname) with his outlook, here, and respectfully ask that, once again, he rethink his position on this issue.

A double error, in my eyes. In a piece about banning bump stocks (SB 492-FN), the Senate Minority Leader shows two things; can you guess what they are from this snippet”

Sen. Jeff Woodburn, a Democrat from Whitefield, sponsored the bill in response to the mass shooting in Las Vegas in October, when a man killed 58 people during a country music concert. Weapons found in his room reportedly were equipped with bump stocks, accessories that speed up their firing rate. At a public hearing on the bill, Woodburn said there’s no need for such firepower for recreational or hunting purposes. Critics called the bill poorly worded and overly broad. The Senate Judiciary Committee has recommended further study.

Besides that I agree that this bill is poorly written (hey Jeff!  This would include all competition triggers that people that are serious about the shooting sports often use to be able to “speed up their firing rate” – after all, there are a lot of shooting sports that are “on the clock” and these would NOT fit your intent – you need a rewrite!  Plus there is a real Constitution problem you blithely forgot about (and probably don’t care about either because IDEOLOGY and GUN HATRED!).

Well, head honcho Lloyd at Treehugger is at his car-bashing ways again and this time it is all about the fire-breathing, gas-guzzling, earthquake sounding 840 HP Dodge Demon (above).  He simply hates them as do many of the other Treehuggers and they all sound positively Progressive as they all use that phrase, either directly or in one of its variations of, that is the signature tell of all Socialists-with-a-totalitarian-trying-to-burst-out: You Don’t Need That! The other being “I don’t anyone that would want such a thing”.  Anyways, he went on a rant and you know how the argument goes (a take off on “CO2 is killing GAIA!”) – it’s all about safety and security of pedestrians and innocent people in smaller cars because these Demon drivers are out to kill everyone!

Here on TreeHugger we do have a tendency to complain about big gas guzzlers and talk a lot about the safety of people who walk and bike. I have even called for a slow car movement so that we could all drive little fuel efficient Isetta-style cars. I worry about drivers behind the wheel of Fast and Furious cars; they often don’t know how to handle them.
