EPA CO2 Regs ‘The Most Fundamental Transformation’ Of US Power

The head of a major U.S. utility said EPA rules to fight global warming will fundamentally transform the way America generates and delivers electricity to millions of residents.  Gerry Anderson, Chairman and CEO of the utility DTE Energy, told the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that the EPA’s Clean Power Plan “is the most fundamental transformation of our bulk power system that we’ve ever undertaken.”…And much of this must be done by 2020 — five years from now.

Phfft – so what.?  You guys just haven’t learned your lessons.  Jst like in Afghanistan – wait for Obama’s pullout and you’ll see the Taliban take over just like Obama’s retreat in Iraq let ISIS up.  BE the Taliban in action – Obama, McCarthy, and all the other Totalitarians who believe Government exists to DEMAND that we live our lives their way.  They’ve got less than two years – just wait them out.  Stall, prevaricate, sue and tie it up in the courts – act like your own Community Organizers.  Five years?  They have less than two.

Essentially, that is what she has said to America – my your children will only know what I allow and then they will LOVE it!  I read FAR more posts from around the blogosphere than what I can ever write about so I’m in the process of going back to some of those old ones and if they are still relevant; this one from The Hill still has a bad ring to it like when I first read it (emphasis mine):

First lady Michelle Obama is “confident” that controversial changes to school lunch programs undertaken after her lobbying will “eventually be embraced by kids.”

In an interview with Cooking Light magazine to mark the fifth anniversary of her Let’s Move initiative, the first lady says that she sees the effort as “generational.” Eventually, Obama argues, schools will be filled with children who never knew meals that did not conform to new nutritional standards.

“We’re really thinking about the kids who are kindergartners today,” Obama said. “If all they know are whole grains and vegetables, by the time they’re graduating from high school, this will be their norm; they won’t know anything different.”

Under the bill, that money would be returned to ratepayers. It comes out to a savings of roughly 16 cents per month for the average ratepayer.

So what is this about?  The Big Govt people are always telling us that the new program’s cost (or higher spending in general) will only “cost” me a cuppa coffee a day.  Or two.  Problem is, now that we’ve had decades of Bright Ideas passed that “only cost a cuppa” a day to the point I now feel like I’m hauling a couple of tanker trucks full of coffee around – and they never stop asking (or more often, demanding, more).  So, I am ABSOLUTELY in favor of a bill that if even it won’t give me a whole cup, it will finally gives me back a few sips:

Remember, with Democrats Progressives  it is NEVER the actual purpose of Government (“…that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted…”) but quite the opposite:

Freedom – I choose, not you and not government.  But Progressives have the incessant obsession to take those decisions for themselves, not you.  And the Concord Fishwrap Pooh-Bahs put it on full display; they violate the NH’s “Live Free or Die” ethos right from the get-go.  Let’s do that good old fashioned Fisking:

New Hampshire has a long history of refusing to protect its residents from their worst impulses on the road. Drivers can opt out of wearing seatbelts, and motorcyclists can turn down helmets. Individuals should be free to make their own choices goes the thinking – even if those choices end up being harmful.

I could stop right there – they jump off the cliff in the first 16 words. It IS Freedom to be able to choose even if the consequences are sub-optimal.  That is the Individual’s choice – and it should not be anyone

From the Union Leader, this snippet whose main thread drives Progressive / Liberals / Democrats nuts:

…The tax rate cut will allow businesses to keep $37.2 million they otherwise would have paid in taxes. That’s a positive development. We should look for more opportunities to let businesses keep more of their money so they can use it to expand, hire, invest or save.

But whenever Republicans propose cutting business taxes, Democrats usually portray the cuts as money taken from the government. It isn’t tax cuts “save businesses” x amount; it is tax cuts “cost government” x amount.

They (the Democrats) have an overbloated and overly developed sense that Government comes first – after all, people can’t do it right for themselves, Government must do it for them (ignoring the fact that these same people are seemingly adult enough to be earning the money that the Government is taking from in the first place).  As I have already said earlier tonite, they just don’t trust the ordinary person to do the right thing or band together voluntarily to solve problems that are bigger than themselves.  And with that lack of trust, the overblown disdain for those same people keeping their own fruits of their labor.  Su peso es mi peso.  Todos pesos.  Ahora!

TMEW and I just finished re-watching Atlas Shrugged (Part 1) as we are going to march through them all (far less time than rereading the sometime heavy and boring tome of the same name).  It ended on the note where one of the power hungry and greedy socialists, Wesley Mouch,  had just proclaimed the Equalization of Opportunity Law (which said that one person could only own 1 company – to “let” others have more opportunity) which was meant to “ration” that opportunity (and provide a better platform for politically connected Crony Capitalism).  And then I remembered that I had bookmarked this – where real life Progressives (aka, incremental socialists) who always pooh-pooh the ideas expressed in the book are actually proposing it under the rubric of  (reformatted, emphasis mine):

One liberal think tank has an idea for helping hard-hit Appalachian coal communities: Raise the royalty rates for federal mines in the West.

The Center for American Progress [a very Left leaning one – Skip] said that federal Powder River Basin coal in Wyoming and Montana amounts to a market distortion that’s made Appalachian coal less attractive to extract. The think tank proposed ending what they called favorable terms for private companies to “balance” the coal market.  “Powder River coal companies we believe are not paying a fair share,” said CAP counselor Ted Strickland, the former Democratic Ohio governor who is exploring a Senate bid against Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio.

So, is this perennial professional Lefty going to call for the high cost of one brought down to that of the lower cost one?  If you believe that…

Another Sunday talking head show snippit from Meet The Press back on 2/8.  The topic in that round table was that of vaccines – is it up to the Individual, the parents, that get to decide for their children whether or not to get vaccinations?  Or is it something that Government decides, period?  At what point are we free individuals and at what point, are we not?  Chuck Todd, host of MTP, at least raised the issue even if put in terms of Republican verses Democrat?

Chuck Todd: I guess it is the larger issue of, sort of, personal freedom versus the public good which of does do divide the two parties

And of course, it is rather easy to see which part the Democrats play and which the Republicans play in.  But then Andrea Mitchell slid in under Todd’s voice with a bit of what she thought was a zinger:

When I read this post about the Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis (a socialist, btw) in his demands that Europe send even more money to Greece (because GREECE!), all I could think of was a screaming match I had one night with Michael Kitsch over the fact that Irefused, as a Budget Committee member, to tax my townfolk more than necessary so that the “excess” could be sent to other towns and cities that had spent themselves into bankruptcy.  When I pointed out that would be wasting money, as those towns and cities had been so mismanaged for years such that they were in deep debt, he blew up.  “PEOPLE ARE HURTING!” was his retort.  Right, so send money to those in charge that have already demonstrated incompetence is a good thing? Besides, bad decisions have bad consequences and those voters that kept voting in these fools were now suffering that deserved consequence. This set him off even more; a litany of adjectives flowed out of his mouth with the more polite ones being cold-hearted, flinty, selfish, uncaring (reformatted, emphasis mine):

A meeting last Wednesday failed to produce an agreement — so the Greeks, with only a few weeks worth of cash left, and their creditors are heading into new talks Monday morning.  As the Monday meeting in Brussels loomed, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis penned an op-ed in the New York Times.  His goal: “To fashion a fresh mind-set that transcends national divides, dissolves the creditor-debtor distinction in favor of a pan-European perspective, and places the common European good above petty politics.”  Varoufakis decried a “tyranny of consequences,” implying that the economic laws of scarcity need not apply to Greece because its thriftier northern neighbors have cash to spare and should willingly fork it over without any conditions.
