It really must be he stands that far Left to everyone else

Executive OrderThe news came out today that President Obama did a partial end run (AHgain!) around Congress by issuing yet another Executive Order – and yet again poking Government’s nose, not under but through the tent wall of the private sector.  In this case, telling Federal contractors that they WILL be paying employees for paid sick leave.  Of course, the hit was on the GOP was on not getting on board with this yet another fascist / socialist trend of Government controlling private companies.  This struck me from our Labor Secretary in praising the Order and taunting the GOP:

“There are certain Republicans that said we can’t afford to do this,” said Labor Secretary Thomas Perez. He lamented how paid leave is seen as a partisan issue in the U.S. despite broad support in Europe. “The Republican Party is out of step with similar conservative governments around the world,” he said.

Ah yes, one of the “tells” from a Progressive / Socialist – bemoaning the fact that we aren’t Europe and that

Yo, Jeb – we can blame your clan for our “broken immigration system

Big Government (emphasis mine):

MCALLEN, Texas — Given the opportunity to get to the White House, presidential candidate Jeb Bush would fight to grant Dreamers a path to citizenship while working to fix the broken immigration system in America.  “I, as President, I would go to congress and change the law to give them not a residency but citizenship,” Bush said in Spanish during a meeting attended by this writer.

While many can point to Ted “The Swimmer” Kennedy for radically changing our immigration laws that had worked so well for all the right reasons to make our country BETTER, I think it simple to blame the real rolling start by both Papa George and Big Bro George.  By not enforcing the Law, it became “broken”.  Obama merely picked up the “power out of the street” and pretty much removed the Law from our Border.

Speaking of the Rule of Law – shoplifting shouldn’t be against the Law?

Remember, the “right to happiness” was originally “right to property” in one of the drafts of our Declaration.  In the NH Constitution:

[Art.] 2. [Natural Rights.] All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights – among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting, property; and, in a word, of seeking and obtaining happiness. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this state on account of race, creed, color, sex or national origin.

And gives a better definition of “pursuit of happiness” as you can read.  Yet, this academic “director of community relations” (Everett Mitchell) has made it known that the illegal taking of other peoples’ property should not be a crime – I just cannot make this up!  Take this as the perversion of the American Rule of Law as a conflux of Occupy Wall Street meets BlackLivesMatter spawned by Progressives/Socialists with a tinge of Anarchy from the Ivory Towers (emphasis mine):

To an approving murmur from the audience, Mitchell advocated,“I just don’t think that they should be prosecuting cases or [unintelligible] up cases for people who steal from Wal-Mart. I just don’t think that, right? I don’t think Target or all them other places, them big box stores that have insurance. They should be using justification, the fact that people steal from there as justification to start engaging in aggressive police practices, right?”

Speaking of the Rule of Law – Obama about to dope smack Congress again?

What could go wrong being friends with Castro? (Michael Ramirez, Apr 16th)
What could go wrong being friends with Castro?
(Michael Ramirez, Apr 16th)

The fish rots from the top down.  And for those Democrats that are railing against fellow Democrat Kim Davis for not “enforcing” the Law (when, as Steve points out, she is).  So where did she get this notion?  Well, Sanctuary Cities are those not enforcing Federal law (controlled by Democrats), various Federal agencies going beyond their statuatory authority (controlled by Democrats) and of course (back a few years) when the Democrat resident of the Oval Office and his sidekick, Eric Holder, decided that they didn’t have to enforce DOMA (and our immigration laws) either.

And Obama is about to write his own law again (emphasis mine, reformatted):

Travel to Cuba could soon be nearly as easy as travel to any other part of the world.

The Obama administration plans to unilaterally ease the travel restrictions to Cuba, sources told ABC News. The new measures would bypass limits on travel imposed by Congress by changing regulations at the executive level. Talks are already underway between the Federal Aviation Administration and Cuban aviation authorities to resume regularly scheduled non-charter or commercial flights between the two countries.

Data Points – 3500 years of climate change and an 18 year pause

From Powerline:

The analysis of the past 2500 years involved data from tree rings, sediment cores, stalagmites, etc. A plot of the data yields a climate operating with cyclic behavior. Compared to the maxima and minima of the past, the current minima and maxima show that there is nothing unusual happening today. The scientists say today’s temperature changes are within the normal range. The German authors write: “Especially the 20th century shows nothing out of the ordinary.”

A question on NH First District race…

Why isn’t Congressman Frank Guinta (R-NH) a member of the Freedom Caucus in the US House?  After all, he made it clear during his first run that he was with the TEA Party.  How come I NEVER see his name associated with his fellow legislators that make it clear that Freedom is their first concern, … Read more

Sunday Talking head shows – the refugee “crisis”

I’ve only watched Fox News so far this morning (TMEW wanted to watch the Green Lantern movie first) but I am betting that the rest of the shows are going to also comment on the streaming of folks from the Middle East and Africa up to and through Europe as well.  They wailed and waxed about the humanitarian crisis and the plight of these folks – and that the US must do more to help and take more of these folks in.

Yet, NONE of them mentioned our southern border and the tens of millions of illegal aliens that have streamed across Central America and Mexico (and many of the mass of children and mothers with children that flooded the border the last year) demanding refugee and asylum status.

Yet, these Smart people bemoaned that we should

Email Doodlings – …abhors a vacuum…”

The question that Kim posed below, I think is an important one and appeared first in our internal ‘Grok email so I asked her to post it (thanks for posting, Kim!).  My response:

>> who thinks Trump has  put voice to the concerns of many Americans
Which is what I have been writing for a while now – nature, business and politics abhor vacuums and the biz person in Trump rightly recognized that vacuum.  I like the folks, generally, that you mention but on this, they are wrong.  Or actually, they are orthogonal. They write and talk about logical ideological stances.  They think within the normal bounds of politics and political engagement.  Thus, they don’t see the attraction.
Laura, however, rightly sees and voices the emotional side of ordinary folks who don’t just care about God, family, and friends but have internalized the greatness and exceptionalism of America and its traditions – and are scared that it is being ripped apart and thrown into the trash by both the Left and transnationalists on the Right that have given up on that American Exceptionalism.

Sunday Talking head shows – the refugee “crisis” – Part II

I have pointed out again and again and again that the groups represented by virtually all illegal migrants and refugees — and 85 percent of legal immigrants since 1965 — vote for socialistic candidates between 70 to 90 percent of the time upon being naturalized. And then there’s another obvious but overlooked factor: The people make the culture and government. Replace a Western people with Muslims or Mexicans and you no longer have Western civilization. You have Mexico Norte or Iran West.

I forgot I had bookmarked this post and given my earlier post, go take a read on it (above is from it and is vital to understand given the topic du jour (“du jour“; see, multiculturalism has a place when it is assimilated and additive and not a micro-version of Balkanism).  And most of this has been decided without us voting on it – Politics without Representation or Representing:

Jeb Bush has called illegal migration “an act of love.” And all over the West we see nations being loved to death, with endless human waves from Third World countries washing ashore. The results were predictable and are now plain: balkanization, riots, ethnic and racial strife and no-go areas in European lands. Yet we’re told that accepting what are “refugees” is a humanitarian imperative. Yet no one, it seems, points out an obvious fact, something that really is the crux of the matter.

If a stranger in need happens by your area and you’re a charitable sort, you may take him in for a time, feed him and provide other basic necessities.

You don’t generally make him an official part of your family and empower him to help decide on finances, what products to buy, how your kids will be educated and what values will prevail within your home.

The point? At issue in the current “refugee crisis” is not charity and the humane treatment of refugees. This isn’t only because most of the migrants in question may not even be refugees.

It’s because the issue is granting uninvited guests citizenship.

Read the First Amendment much, Democrats?

Democrat-Obama-Confederate-ItemsFreedom of Speech, Right of conscious – two pillars of American Exceptionalism that ideas matter and that the Federal Government was PROHIBITED from restricting individuals from their God given and natural law rights.  Yet, it looks like the Democrats in California have both forgotten that little aspect and are all too willing to trample it and the pillar of Federalism.  This from Breitbart (emphasis mine, reformatted):

The California legislature reconvened on August 17, and one of their first acts of business has been the passage of a joint resolution calling on Congress to enact a federal ban on the Confederate flag. The resolution, Assembly Joint Resolution 26, is sponsored by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber (D-San Diego). It urges Congress to ban the Confederate flag from being displayed on federal property and to “ban the use of Confederate States of America symbolism from state symbols.”

GrokTALK! for the week of 9/5/15

Summer is over!  Kids are back to school!  And here in NH, the countdown is proceeding to where “The Summah People” (H/T: Weekend Pundit) will be heading home and traffic here in Central NH will return to its normal, languid pace.  Hustle-bustle will be gone – but the political pace never slacks off!  This week, we have:

  • Segment 1: Grokster Susan calls in from the Deprete Gun show at Concord’s skating rink and we talked about a number of things include SB116 and the impending override vote on Gov. Maggie “The Red” Hassan’ veto schedule for September 16.
  • Segment 2:   Ralph Benko from Townhall joins us, courtesy of Grokster Kimberly Morin’s trip out to the Jackson Hole economic summit, to talk about economics and The Fed.  Funny, no one has ever mentioned that we Groksters were part of the Bolivian Army (snicker)….
  • Segment 3: ‘Grok friend and now National Campaign Mgr. for Trump 2016 Corey Lewandowski comes on to talk about his rocket ride and takes a few questions from we Groksters.
Segment 4: Max Ledoux from Riccochet.com joins us to yak about Gov. Maggie Hassan and Planned Parenthood and her (and her staff’s) inability to answer a simple question: Has Maggie Hassan watched the Center for Medical Progress’s videos on Planned Parenthood’ harvesting unborn baby organs (done “to order”)?  A simple yes or no that seemingly was caught in PP’s scalpels…

“ACLU: Force Catholic Hospitals to Abandon Catholic Faith”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances

So, again we have a case where a religious institution is going to be forced by secular humanists to defy their faith because the latter believes THEIR views trumps the former.  Tolerate much? Emphasis mine, reformatted:

The woefully misnamed American Civil Liberties Union is launching a crusade to force Catholic hospitals to act against Catholic moral teachings and the natural law.  This is an un-American attack on religious liberty.  The ACLU’s intentions came to light this week after it threatened to sue Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California, which is operated by the Sisters of Mercy. The hospital is a part of Dignity Health, a nonprofit that operates 40 hospitals — 22 of which are Catholic — in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Free Speech? On college campuses, that’s considered HATE speech

Political Correctness 2Orwellian: freedom from religion is religious freedom.  Owellian: freedom of speech has become freedom OF speech.  Both of our fundamental rights are being redefined to its exact opposite by the Marxist Left a la Political Correctness and “never offend anyone”.

GraniteGrok’s response to that is short and pithy: screw you.  If you can’t withstand criticism, if you believe that you have the right to never have to defend yourself in an argument with someone that holds opposite views and runs rings around you in that debate, go home to Momma and Daddy, go sit in the corner of your basement, curl up in a ball and drool on yourself.  Stay there until you have looked inside your belly button long enough to have figured out that your soul is empty and pitiful and only outdone by the vacuousness of your cranium that is devoid of a singular thought or any kind of logical reasoning.

Guess ACLU only approves of certain religions…

Well, it is clear that the ACLU (“woefully misnamed American Civil Liberties Union“) doesn’t like the Catholic hospital that wants to practice its religion with respect to its not wishing to participate in sterilization procedures.  That’s on one hand.  Yet, on the other (emphasis mine, reformatted):

ACLU, CAIR SUE FLORIDA FOR DENYING ISLAMIC MEALS TO MUSLIM PRISONERS

The American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) Florida Chapter and the Council Of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Florida are suing the state of Florida for purportedly denying Halal meals to Muslim convicts locked up in the Miami-Dade Country prison system. The lawsuit was filed on Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Local 10 News, a Miami-based ABC affiliate, reported.
