Nobel panel saw Obama peace prize as ‘mistake,’ new book claims

The former director of Norway’s Nobel Institute revealed this week that he regrets the committee’s decision to give the 2009 Nobel Peace award to President Obama.

Geil Lundestad, director at the institute for 25 years, said in his just-published memoir that he and the committee had unanimously decided to grant the award to Mr. Obama just after his election in 2009 more in hopes of aiding the American president to achieve his goals on nuclear disarmament, rather than in recognition of what Mr. Obama had already accomplished.

Bernie Sanders, Socialist Democrat, spoke at Liberty University today (the largest evangelical private university in the US).  I have to give him a bit of cred, given that he went to a place where Democrats or Socialists don’t ordinarily go.  I’m not going post up all of his talk but I will concerning this from CBS News reporting:

The importance of the issue of abortion, for example, was made clear Monday when the crowd erupted into raucous applause as David Nasser, the senior vice president for spiritual development at Liberty who engaged Sanders in a question and answer session following his speech, asked Sanders to explain his stance on abortion.

“My view is I respect absolutely a family that says no we are not going to have an abortion,” Sanders said, recognizing that “this is an area” where his view would not match his audience’s. “I would hope that other people respect the very painful and difficult choice that many women feel they have to make and don’t want the government telling them what they have to do.”

“I respect absolutely a family that says no ” – but that isn’t the point!

This smacks high on both a fawning level of royalty and a big gob of Republican Republicans for the sake of the Republican Party:

New York Times columnist David Brooks chastised supporters of Dr. Ben Carson and Donald Trump for showing “insufficient respect” for the Republican establishment. “It’s like a mutiny, not a campaign,” Brooks said on Sunday’s Meet the Press.”The problem is, there’s an illusion in this country, and in the Republican base, that you can govern by screaming.”

It took nearly seven years, but at long last it’s finally been heard — praise for Sarah Palin on MSNBC.

Even better, one of the people praising Palin — and there were three, count ’em, three libs on the Lean Leftward cable network today doing so — suggested that flailing Democrat Hillary Clinton could do worse than to look toward Palin as a political model to emulate.

The post is ga-ga over that someone from the uber-Left media finally said something nice about Sarah Palin.  I think they missed the important point about the Left itself.

I reject the idea that it’s “racist” to want to preserve one’s national culture and character (especially in language), or to favor bona fide citizens for gainful employment…. National boundaries will be defended. Sentimentalists will have to step aside. History is not a bedtime story about bunnies and kittens.

It certainly has been quite hard to keep up with what seems to be a massive tsunami of muslim migrants news coming out of Europe.  Given the number of NON-Syrian “refugees”, what we are seeing are mostly men looking for a better life without following The Rule of Law – an abstract notion from whence they come so one should be rightly concerned whether or not this vital aspect of Western Liberalism (or should that be “formerly”?) will be inculcated.  Along with other Western ideals – which, pretty much, are hated in the muslim world.  So what does this portend?

Poor nations want U.S. to pay reparations for extreme weather

…Preparatory talks ahead of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change to be held in Paris in December has representatives from developing nations asking for more than an already agreed upon $100 billion per year for climate change mitigation measures. They want additional compensation for weather-related disasters as well as a “displacement coordination facility” for refugees. And they want all this to be legally binding as part of the larger anticipated Paris accord.

The U.S. and wealthier nations in the European Union are balking.
