Today, in the Morning Update, Democrats are pushing a narrative that the president who isn’t running for office in this election and Republicans in Congress who – many would argue – have been very hands-off made food cost more, but when you compare them to Democrats and Joe Biden, the Left made food cost exponentially more.

Welcome to your Thursday, Groktober 29th, 2026 morning update. Another important election issue that’s gotten a lot of air. Maybe it sucked the air out of the room. You decide. Food inflation. Food prices. Unaffordable food prices. Well, it’s a suitable topic. Everybody feels the pinch of food prices,
So obviously it really does strike a nerve.
I thought, what the heck? Let’s dig into it a little bit and see what’s really going on.
Food inflation, like the food prices you’re paying today, is still a leftover effect of Democrats and the Biden administration.
Looking at current levels, September 2026 BLS data says overall CPI is 2.5% year over year. Food at home, meaning groceries, is up about 1.8% from last year. Food away from home, as in restaurants, is up 3.5% from last year. Monthly changes have been modest. We’re looking at maybe zero to half a percent. Grocery inflation has slowed notably and is near or below longer-term averages in recent months.
It’s starting to get better. Better from what, you might ask. Well, do you remember paying $7.99 for a pound of butter or more than eight or nine dollars for a dozen eggs? If you go to the grocery store today, at least one that doesn’t try to bilk you because they are slightly more upscale, say, than other grocery stores you could go to, you would pay, well, two ninety-nine, two ninety-five for a pound of butter. That’s a little bit less than eight bucks.
And if you wanted to buy 18 eggs, you could get them for less than $2. Now remember, that’s about a quarter of the price you were paying under Joe Biden. Why? Food inflation shot up remarkably during the Biden administration. Democrats didn’t do a damn thing about that, did they? In fact, they probably didn’t even talk about it.
I remember an incident, I think it might have been Morning Joe, where somebody said, well, don’t you know butter’s 7.99 a pound? And they’re like, What? Well, these are people who don’t do their own shopping. They don’t have any clue. And most of the people in Congress don’t. If you live in New Hampshire, most of the people running for office on the Democrat side are millionaires. They have absolutely no connection to what the cost of living is, what food inflation is, or how much it costs you to get by.
They’re also Democrats, which means that they’re going to meddle, interfere, and get in the way of market forces. Which never makes prices go down. Overall food prices hit 11.4% year over year in August of 2022, the highest since 1979. Grocery shopping was even higher, up 13.5% year over year.
Your food prices are still higher because of the meddling and incompetence of Democrats and Joe Biden. They are only beginning to level out and become normal in the past two years thanks to Republicans and Donald Trump.
That doesn’t just fix itself overnight.
These aren’t mystical, magical, impossible numbers to find. You can do the research yourself.
Do you want food prices to go down? You better not vote for Democrats.
That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
