One of the concerns expressed by Democrats in their fake “affordability” narrative is the cost of electricity and energy. After years of deliberate policy that made electricity in New Hampshire among the most expensive in the nation, the theory goes something like this. You are too stupid or won’t recall.
Progressive energy priorities are designed to make it a luxury.
Nuclear is technically emissions-free, but they made it too expensive to build and pushed to decommission existing nuclear plants. Republicans have done the opposite, enthusiastically embracing small nuclear tech alongside more sensible safety and licensing that lower entry costs.
Natural gas is almost entirely responsible for the majority of emissions reductions, but democrats won’t let you build pipelines and refuse to remove restrictions that would allow access in New England to cheap American gas.
On more than one occasion, New England and New Hampshire have come a hair’s breadth away from midwinter shortages that would have left thousands of Granite Staters out in the cold. If it weren’t for dirtier-emitting oil, some of us would have frozen, and the cost of getting that, or emergency supplies of gas from foreign lands, jacks up the cost exponentially, and you pay for it.
This is all deliberate Democrat policy, so if you were a proglodyte running on the notion that Republicans made electricity cost more, you might support natural gas pipelines into New England and New Hampshire. More domestic gas, more US jobs, lower energy costs, and all the benefits that savings produce in other parts of the economy.
And we’d stay warm in winter without fearing price shocks from shortages during a January freeze.
No.
The NH Dems candidate for Governor, Cinde Warmington, is the tip of the political spear, and she opposed more pipelines.
In a recent press release from Team Ayotte,
Moderator: Would would you support the construction of a pipeline to deliver more?
Warmington: I think that if we invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy, we don’t need to invest in a pipeline.
“Opioid Lobbyist Cinde Warmington’s energy plan, which would end the use of natural gas and home heating oil, was already more extreme than Massachusetts’,” said Ayotte campaign spokesman John Corbett. “Now while even Maura Healey calls for more natural gas in our region to lower costs, Warmington is opposing it. New Hampshire cannot afford Opioid Lobbyist Cinde Warmington.”
We should call her Cinde Not-So-Warm-Ington because that’s what we’ll get, at least on energy policy.
The cold hand of Democrat socialism is harsh year-round but can be fatal in the middle of a New England winter, and the Northeast has needed gas-pipeline infrastructure for more than a decade.
Not-So-Warm-Ington pretends to be progressive, but the Democrats’ energy policy looks a lot like the 1600s.
The 21st-century version of this is that the elites will have heat and light, and the rest of us will be burning our furniture and whatever wood we can poach from Her Majesty’s forest.
