The keep-it-in-the-ground folks are idiots. Yes, they are idiots for falling for the green scam. Stooges to the decarbonization political class who don’t plan on decarbonizing themselves. Victims of a soft-headed idea that oil and gas are a greater threat to life on earth than not having them.
They are wrong, and there are tons of “science” (real and political) to prove every side. CO2 isn’t warming shit. It’s a trace gas subject to the laws of chemistry and physics that make CO2-driven runaway warming impossible. Reducing it is actually bad for the planet.
Global Warming, under all its aliases, is an economic program to end free-market capitalism. Their experts have admitted more than a few times, but that truth never gets the sort of play required because it would kill the political science of shifting the world to communism and planned systemic poverty.
Another inconvenient truth? We need hydrocarbons to feed the world, keep it running, build things, move things, and without them, government-run health care is screwed. Not just all the disposables like masks, tubes, and the rest.
Modern medicine depends heavily on hydrocarbons, both as raw material and chemical building blocks. Without them, the production of many essential drugs – from painkillers and antibiotics to cancer therapies – would be significantly more difficult, much more expensive, and in some cases impossible to produce at the required scale. Many pharmaceuticals are organic molecules and hydrocarbons form the backbone of the complex manufacturing chemistry. For example, hydrocarbon-derived benzene can be converted through controlled reactions into compounds such as phenol and aniline to synthesise drugs such as paracetamol. Treating propylene provides vital solvents and other manufacturing intermediaries.
Inactive substances made from hydrocarbons such as paraffin wax and certain emulsifiers help stabilise drugs, control their release in the body and improve their shelf life. Ointments and gels provide a stable way that active ingredients can be applied to the skin. Hydrocarbons are also widely used in drug delivery systems such as syringes and are widespread in the manufacture of protective clothing, IV bags, pill bottles and sterile packaging.
There is no modernity, no public health, no modern medicine, not much of anything without hydrocarbons. Human flourishing, human health, even just getting by, becomes not just difficult but near impossible. In classic fashion, the progressives would push history and humanity backward a few hundred years technologically and culturally. Well, most of us.
The political elites and their oligarchs would still live in modern comfort while you work in less-than-ideal conditions to ensure they stay that way.
Blaming human flourishing on a fake planetary doom is just a new way to get there from here. The problem, of course, is that people who are just discovering the joys of living with cheap, abundant energy are not going to go back. They’ll emit more than ever, and on a larger scale, making any sacrifice forced upon the West by its elites not just a waste of time but national suicide.
One possible upside. Once we’ve been conquered by the East, they will do away with the pointless global warming nonsense. You’ll be trapped in an industrial society with no rights and the ever-present threat of arrest or execution, but you’ll have heat in the winter and cooling in the summer. Fertilizer will be allowed, so food won’t be a problem if you obey your masters, and while most things will be rationed 0 even with fossil fuels, communism still sucks – there will be things to ration.
Net Zero and Communism have that in common. They are both anti-human, so if you thought perhaps Net Zero was a communist psyOp, then you’d be right, and smarter than just about every Western progressive on the planet.
