DISQUS Doodlings: Karens, Karens, Karens all around – even if they’re named Laureen

by

GraniteGrok would be FAR less of a place to be without our commenters. SMART, too. But there are exceptions.

I don’t mind at all when people from the other side of an argument come over to present their point of view. In fact, I’m of the opinion that Conservatives MUST go out and do battle in the Arena of Ideas: learn the issues, learn the pros and cons, sharpen up your debating skills, and certainly engage. Staying away complete, safely ensconced in the echo chamber, is not the way to win hearts and minds. Even when they come in with a rather sneering attitude (you know, that Leftist “Moral Superiority” schtick):

Laureen August
So I’m assuming that you also have an issue with the no shirt no shoes policy that all restaurants and stores have. Until you are upset about those restrictions I will just assume that this is a political ploy!

That from Kevin’s “Nashua Mask Edict: A Tyranny Imposed For The “Good” of Its Victims” post. Yeah, I think I can safely say that we are NOT for mandatory mask mandates. And self-proclaiming Karens are, for the most part, rather rude and it’s clear that Laureen totally fits the bill.  So which is it, Laureen: Government over People?  Health & Safety over Constitutions? Or agreeing that infantalization of the general population is a good thing?

So:

GraniteGrok -> Laureen
AND you’d be wrong (you know what they say about that word: ass out of you and me). If the proprietor has put up that sign, then you either obey it or keep walking. It’s his Private Property to do with as he wishes. If he decided that the minimum requirements were “no shirt, no shoes, no mask, no gloves”, he has decided that those are the people he will serve and no others.

I have no problem with the owner making such rules. That’s what the Right to Private Property is all about.

I then have the Freedom to decide if I wish to give him my money in exchange for his product. I’m in that vulnerable age range with a comorbidity so I’d be ok with the mask. I don’t always glove up.

The major sign for me is the No Gun sign – automatic walk by and onto the next shop. Do you carry, Laureen (and no, this is not a political ploy)?

Kevin (the author of the post) weighed in with a similar outlook.

In the end, when do we start enforcing that “limited government” MUST be limited government? Our style of Government depends on the consent of the governed. It also depends on laws/regulations/ordinances being fair and not retaliatory (re: $1,000 fine?). It also is dependent that Government governs, not rules. It is not there to micromanage every aspect of our lives (even though it seems that is where we are right now).

Laureen is seemingly in the camp that has no problem with this – if you aren’t doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. It matters not to her that quarantining the sick was the rigeur and not the healthy. This is the Precautionary Principle

Where is that line that should not be crossed? At what point do we get to that tipping point that signals that our Govt is now a Hobbesian one in which it demands ALL of our Rights must be turned over? Or is there still a remnant within us that still believes in “We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor”; are we all in on Liberty in Freedom anymore?

Or just shut up and put on the mask…

    Co-founder of GraniteGrok, my concern is around Individual Liberty and Freedom and how the Government is taking that away. As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us. As a TEA Party activist, citizen journalist, and pundit!, my goal is to use the New Media to advance the radical notions of America's Founders back into our culture.
