They just need to tape more arrows to the floor…

I hate shopping. I hate shopping especially in grocery stores. My intent is to get in and get out ASAP. At the local Market Basket, they’ve thrown my game plan all out of whack, even during “Senior hours” at the crack of down.

While I can get in quickly, it’s like getting thrown into the food version of Hotel California (“you can’t check out”). I generally have my list, organized by rows for efficiency (which mean it REALLY hurts when they move stuff around like they are now to fill gaps), and race through as fast as I can go. NOW, however, if I miss an item and then have to go back a row, I have to go back some number of rows to get back into the right “grabbing pattern” – and that takes time.

So far, it’s just been the other customers from whom I’ve got the stares as I go the “wrong way” for 10 feet to pick up the missing items. I don’t worry about them too much – they’re generally FAR older than I and I can tell you with confidence that none are going to catch me (I’ve been stuck behind too many of them either shuffling at ant speed or waiting for them to make up their mind whether to pick something off the shelf with their cart square in the middle) and hog-tie me with the rope found in the “hardware supply” shelves at the end of Row 8.

Those restocking the shelves, however, or the roving managers – they’re more of the beefier stock than I. So far, just smiles.

But can I count on you all if it comes time to get bailed out of their jail cell in the back stockroom freezer area?
