Have We Been Punk’d? COVID-19 Mortality Looking More and More Like Seasonal Flu

As we wrestle with the question of rolling back restrictions on “living,” people are taking sides. Over on Twitter, the left is all in on keeping the fear factor high to ensure the economy stays locked down. A nationwide political punishment as a vehicle for wish fulfillment.

Democrats will say or do anything to beat Trump in November. They’ve admitted as much. So, every suggestion that this is not what the “experts” say it is gets met with ‘You want people to die’ or you think this is a hoax.

The flu is not a hoax. It kills people every year. I’ve had flu devolve into pneumonia on several occasions. One year I lost a week of my life. I was so sick I don’t remember it. I wasn’t the only one, but we didn’t deprive anyone else of their livelihoods or liberties.

The issue is not if people get the flu of it kills. It is whether this Chinese Flu is the plague we were promised? The thing that politicians used as an excuse to deprive us of natural rights and liberties. These are, after all, our representatives. Put in public office to ensure that the government protects those rights.

I’ll wait for you to stop laughing.

Few politicians even know that this is their job. Those that do are smeared as freaks and radicals. Around here they call them Free Staters even if they are not. What they are is a rare breed. Individuals who did not just speak the oath of office but do their darndest to uphold it. To keep the government from trampling on your natural rights.

Everyone else is screaming lockdown, shelter-in-place, close your business, cut your hours, stay indoors. They have reduced you to slaves to the whims of bureaucrats consulting elected politicians whose biggest fear is not people getting sick. It is being blamed for people getting sick before the next election; for people dying.

Are people dying?

From the flu, every damn year. So, the question is not if but how. And is the response to this year’s “how” – given the infringements on our lives – justified. Increasingly, the answer to that question is no. The scare-models were wrong exponentially. To make this easy for Democrats to understand, the models used to justify the war on work are a lot like the claims of WMD in Iraq to justify the Coalition invasion.

COVID-19 was sold as public health WMD. It’ll take out (overburden) our health-care infrastructure and we’ll be helpless. But now that we’ve been here for a few weeks, and everyone is looking, it’s not the danger we were promised. We can’t find that threat.

New research from Stanford University suggests we never will. The fatality rate from COVID-19 is probably no greater than the typical flu season.

In other words, we’ve been Punk’d. Tricked, fooled, made the butt of a practical joke.  We gave up our liberty for several trillion in new debt, and a raft of bulls**t left-wing add-ons just in case it doesn’t dislodge Trump. The side-effects of the response will long outlive the virus and many of our natural lives.

The new data suggests that large numbers of people have had Chinese Flu but never showed symptoms. Many had mild symptoms that subsided without any detrimental effect on their lives. Like every other flu.

And yet a positive test for either the virus or its antibodies are being used to secure the right to continue denying liberties. Its true meaning is the opposite. The more people who are positive or asymptomatic the lower the mortality rate goes.

Regardless of how contagious this may be or how sick people get if it is no more dangerous to human life than the seasonal flu the political response has been excessive, bordering on criminal.

Flu season peaked in February. More people testing positive now is not a justification for a longer lockdown. And while every death is tragic, COVID-19 is not the WMD you are looking for; start opening the economy before your cure ruins more lives than the damned disease.
