Given our four day First In The Nation Primary broadcastfest with the 603 Alliance last week and the previous were pretty much a lost cause for blogging for me and I’m still trying to play catch up on some stuff that had caught my eye and I didn’t get the chance to do any writing. So, I’m late on this by a couple of weeks.
SubTitle for Democrats: we will force security over Freedom. It’s better for you.
HB1621 – AN ACT relative to the use of protective head gear while operating motorcycles and motorized bicycles.
The four sponsors are all Democrats including the Prime Sponsor, Skip Cleaver (D-Nashua). In this case, Democrats want to take away yet another personal choice: your choosing to wear a helmet or not while riding. You see, they believe you are incompetent when it comes to you figuring out what is best for you. Thus, they have to make that choice for you. It is STUNNING that they have no sense of irony in doing so with respect to the word “totalitarian”:
Of, relating to, being, or imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed.
So when Skip Cleaver and his three sponsor cohorts decide that they MUST make that decision instead of you, isn’t that exercising “centralized control” over yet another aspect of life? And that in doing so, they also are showing that the State is premier in our lives – “the individual is subordinated to the state“. If he really thought it through (which many don’t even try), how is this upholding an anecdotal motto of the US: “Land of the Free”? It’s now becoming “Land of the Free WHERE WE POLITICIANS LET YOU”. “Live Free or Die” is now a motto to be ignored instead of a proclamation of our State’s pro-Freedom and Liberty ethos. After all, Cleaver said it himself (reformatted, emphasis mine):
Rep. Skip Cleaver, who sponsored the bill, announced that an amendment would remove the requirement for bicyclists, but the committee has not yet voted on the amendment. “I’m pleased this bill has engendered so much interest,” Cleaver said in introductory remarks before the crowd that nearly filled the House Chamber. ‘It’s good for democracy.” The bill reflects studies that concluded helmets would save lives and prevent serious injuries while also providing “billions” in savings, he said, citing statistics such as a 40 percent decrease in the number of deaths and a 60 percent reduction in traumatic brain injuries, as well as savings in lost income and medical expenses.
Responding to those who object to the loss of freedom of choice, Cleaver said, “You give up freedom for the sake of preventing injury and death. The ultimate freedom is life.”
To that last part – then why are the Democrats the Party of killing unborn babies and denying them the “ultimate freedom” which is Life itself?
No, it is not “Freedom” that is being protected – it is, as they always do, regulating yet another behavior. It is about another instance of Control. It is no US that are GIVING UP freedom, it’s yet another Democrat who believes he knows what is best for someone else. He and the others curtly dismiss other peoples’ risk assessment to themselves in participating in an activity that can lead to harm or death. It is a TAKING of Freedom.
IT’S NOT CLEAVER’S DECISION TO MAKE!
What Cleaver and cohort have done have crossed from simple governing to totalitarian ruling. Sure, it may not pass but I’m zeroing in on the mind set that this is the kind of decision that anyone, especially an elected official, should be making for others. No, Rep. Cleaver, they aren’t giving up ANY Freedom; you’re trying to TAKE it from them and using the “Health and Security” argument to make it (which is to say, no argument at all). Freedom is and should always be uppermost in anyone’s mind and sacrosanct from pretty much anything. And with 259 against / 4 for in the hearings, it certainly is a case for Article 1 in the NH Consitution:
Article 1. [Equality of Men; Origin and Object of Government.]. All men are born equally free and independent; Therefore, all government of right originates from the people, is founded in consent, and instituted for the general good.
Certainly no consent was found in that hearing on Feb 4th. There is also this that is getting TOTALLY bent out of shape by those that would rule instead of representing:
[Art.] 3. [Society, its Organization and Purposes.] When men enter into a state of society, they surrender up some of their natural rights to that society, in order to ensure the protection of others; and, without such an equivalent, the surrender is void.
Lately, Democrats / Progressives / Socialists see that phrase, they surrender up some of their natural rights to that society, at a green light / full steam ahead as they always take that “some” as an affirmation that we’ve surrendered the Right they need to trample over to get what they want. It ain’t just that simple but they do it when they know they can get away with it. Speaking of…
Does Cleaver really believe that those that ride (and those of us who love those that do ride even if we don’t) don’t understand the stats? And as far as the money is concerned, I didn’t know that Cleaver was a billionaire when he talks about “billions in savings” Or “lost income and medical expenses“. Duh!
Good. Lord. Cleaver. Save. Us. From. Ourselves!
He’s Nannying like Nanny-in-chief mini-Mike Bloomberg (except without the billions in his account). Returning us to serfdom because “GOOD INTENTIONS”.
No, this bill should die a quick but lonely death sans its own helmet. This isn’t a Right that has been surrendered. Stop trying to take them.
