Poor Occupiers – can’t you reach out and help them?

Yesterday was May 1 – otherwise known as one of the most wonderful political days of the year (if you are a Socialist or Communist).  It was also supposed to be the same for the OWSers – Occupy Wall Street movement participants as yesterday was supposed to be the Spring of the 99%, the day that the US was supposed to be in the throes of a General Strike when NO one was to work, shop, learn, or play.  Just demonstrate for the “rights” of the 99% against the evil 1%.

Didn’t work out quite that way:

Can you have some compassion for these confused ones?

I started to count the number of arrests – I stopped at 1,100.  By the way, TEA Party?  That was a big 0 – no arrests and a lot of “heckava clean up jobs” to boot!

And I would love to see that this ashhat get the right pair of cuffs placed on him – I present the Occupier Cheap Shot:

Yet, the other Occupiers will have no problem with it – after all, the police represent and protect “the 1%” and are not on the side of them – the 99%.  Problem is, THIS 0.01% of the 99% are not only willing to put up with lots of violence and abrogating other peoples lives and Rights (see above).  And given those that back them, why was I unsurprised to see this article talking a wee bit about how alike they are to the 1%:

…“Well,” the speaker said, “I want to move on a bit. A lot of people live in the suburbs and they have a few cars and they live in houses that they probably bought in the 1980s. We need to morally exclude those who don’t recognize the problem, and let them know that they have no place in a future America.” This sounded a bit off to my ears, so I waited until they were finished and then asked one of the friendlier-looking participants a question: “I understand that you think these people in the suburbs can’t continue their lifestyles. Where will they live if not there?”

“Where will they live? In a community!” she replied.

“They do live in a community,” I said.

She laughed nervously. “A different community. One that we’d all design together.”

“Forgive me,” I said. “But you just described America. This is a community that we all designed together. How would yours differ?”

After a while, we established that what she actually meant was that people who shared her views would need to design the parameters of others’ lives — for the “common good,” of course. She was very nice — more Tom Friedman than Mussolini — and would surely be horrified if I were to buy her a copy of Liberal Fascism and suggest that people like her are exactly what the book is about. But neither her basic decency nor her naïveté can change the fact that she and her fellow panelists have succumbed to the totalitarian temptation, and adopted wholesale the seductive idea that the future is just too important to be left to individuals and free institutions and must thus be bent to the will of experts who happen to look very much like them…

(H/T: The Corner) Go read the whole thing!

No, these folks are not 99%, but they are a lot closer to a lot of the 1% in that they have no problems in determining how people SHOULD live – according to what OWSers think (just like other socialists and communists, and environmentalists) and just can’t conceive of the idea that perhaps the REAL 99% want to determine what is best for themselves.  These OWSers don’t wish to be told how to live by the 1% (according to them), but very few catch the irony that they, in turn, are trying to turn around and do EXACTLY to others that which they are complaining about.

Consistency – not exactly a virtue among the Left.
