Over the years, the Liberals have had this thing about spending on the military has always been put above that of helping the poor.
During the last Presidential, we ran into "The Cookie Lady" (sponsored by NH Priorities who in turn, was funded by the ice cream barons, Ben and Jerry) who would hand out cookies whose topping was a pie chart that showed the military (the red in the picture) taking half the nation’s budget – but never showed the Health and Human Services and Social Security budgets which are the largest drivers of our deficit.
Here’s how Entitlements vs Military stack up in spending:
Despite what is perceived as massive spending by the Pentagon, Entitlements dwarf it (and this doesn’t even account for spending by the States). While the brakes were put on the welfare state back in 1996, Obama has ramped it up in his quest to redistribute the wealth of those at which he is at war, to those he sees as victims.
