President Trump took to Truth Social, the official platform for breaking news from the office of the President of the United States, to tell us that the 12-day war is over. Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire.
Trump’s chosen title, the “12 Day War,” is a clear allusion to the “Six Day War” of 1967, another dramatic victory by Israel over its enemies. The 12 Day War is no less dramatic a victory, and perhaps an even greater one, opening a path for greater peace and prosperity in the region, and for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) trade route Trump has touted.
Earlier, Iran attacked the US Air base in Qatar.
The IRGC, in its statement, said it launched a “powerful and devastating missile attack” as part of Operation Annunciation of Victory in response to the “blatant military aggression” by the US on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The IRGC also said its “decisive action” sent a message to the White House and its allies that Iran would, “under no circumstances, leave any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty, or national security unanswered”.
“US bases and mobile military assets in the region are not points of strength, but rather major vulnerabilities,” the statement warned.
The incoming missiles were intercepted by Qatari air defence and the weak response suggests a tit for tat reminiscent of Trump 1.0 after the elimination of Qassem Soleimani. Aside from some public displays of pride, no further military action ensued. A saving face move with minimal, if any, anticipated damage.
This was predicted by several sources when the US B-2 bombing runs on Iran’s nuclear material processing facilities became public.
Iran had advanced notice and removed personnel and material. The mission was to remove the infrastructure. There is some debate about what will happen to the material but JD Vance has inferred that they intend to do a deal to get that from Iran, so we’ll see where it goes.
The Left is free to feel disappointment that Trump’s targeted strike did not cause the US to enter a coalition-weakening theater-wide conflict. Oh, and Iran isn’t going to be killing any more jews with missiles once the ceasefire begins, not from Iran, anyway.
Let’s see if this holds and what Trump’s diplomats have planned for the next few weeks.
