We’re approaching eight weeks under the new Trump administration, and it is still nearly impossible to cover all the movement on any given day. This administration came out of the gate like a greyhound and continues to whip up a whirlwind of change on a daily basis.
That’s 56 calendar days for victims of the public school system.
Put another way, we couldn’t cover each thing separately if we wanted. There’s too much there there.
Case in point. Three stories that recently broke among many demonstrate a fast-paced commitment to pantsing the bureaucracy, slapping a kick me sign on their back, and pointing them toward the exits. A complete culture change in Government that puts citizen interests above the fourth branch of government and the oligarchy with which it dove tails.
USPS
The United States Postal Service, impressive as it is given what it tries to do, is a money pit that costs taxpayers billions annually, one estimate suggesting 160 billion in the last decade. That’s to keep it operational – or so they claim – above and beyond what you pay for postage or package delivery. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has invited the vampires from DOGE across the threshold.
DeJoy announced the partnership, which includes the General Services Administration (GSA), in a letter to top lawmakers. The letter unveiled plans to cut 10,000 jobs over the next month through a voluntary early retirement program.
“Last night I signed an agreement with the [GSA] and DOGE representatives to assist us in identifying and achieving further efficiencies,” DeJoy wrote.
The postmaster general cited mismanagement of retirement assets, workers’ compensation programs and burdensome regulatory requirements as key problems that need addressing.
Critics fear it is the first step in privatizing this broken institution and are resorting to fearmongering to hide the truth. Democrats don’t want to lose hundreds of thousands of unionized public servants whom they milk for donations based on promises to keep this dysfunctional money pit afloat. But the USPS isn’t serving the American people in its current form. It is wasting resources on an agency that could do more with less.
The USPS has struggled financially for years, hemorrhaging more than $100 billion since 2007 as first-class mail volume has declined 80% since 1997. The agency reported a $9.5 billion loss in 2024 despite implementing significant cost-cutting measures and service changes.
UPS, FedEx, and even Amazon could deliver better for a fraction of the cost while relieving Americans of the cost burden of propping it up. It is also a monopoly, and that has to end.
I’ve been a fan of privatizing the USPS for years, but that’s not the plan—not yet. The goal is to find or create efficiencies, streamline processes, and cut excess staff. It’s not hard, and it will cost less than we waste annually to keep the USPS operating in one year. Some have suggested rolling into the Department of Commerce to create accountability that currently does exist, after an audit and much needed changes.
The Second story is more bad news for the AP. Keri Lake, who oversees the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), is cutting contracts with third parties like AP and Reuters.
Fifty-three million is couch cushion money, but Trump’s team is looking in a lot of couches and finding a lot of cuts that add up to significant savings while ending funding for groups and organizations that hate America and Americans.
Finally (but not really), the US has sent questionnaires to several UN Aid Agencies in what appears to be a precursor to blocking US funding.
One question asks: ”Can you confirm that your organisation does not work with entities associated with communist, socialist, or totalitarian parties, or any party that espouses anti-American beliefs?”
Another asks agencies to confirm they don’t receive any funding from China, Russia, Cuba or Iran – these countries may not be Washington’s best friends but, like all 193 UN member states, they fund the big humanitarian agencies.
Other questions ask aid agencies to ensure no project includes any elements of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) or anything related to climate change.
In other words, how do we know you’re not using our funding against us Americans or American interests?
Mr. Trump has made it clear that the US is done paying people to hate us, crap on us, and waste our money helping our geo-political enemies.
Oh, and a court just unblocked the anti-DEI order. Trump can freeze funding on his terms, at least until the lawsuit is decided.
