As folks know, I was the NH Dept of Education Liaison to the HB131 Senate Study Commission for GrandFamilies. The Commission was tasked to find out what the needs were of Grandparents who suddenly found out that they now had parenting responsibilities once again after, perhaps, years of being empty nesters.
I have railed for years that most “charities” aren’t anymore – they no longer canvas their friends or the public for funds in which to turn around and help others in need but Step Up Parents is not one of those.
Today was that next meeting. A bit light on the attendance but hey, everybody’s busy and Christmas is coming up fast in the dashcam. Interesting meeting with an interesting mix of people and organizations (see my previous post here for the mandated list). It was clear that even while I was the appointee from the Department of Education via Commissioner Frank Edelblut, there were three grandparents on the committee.
