Open Letter to Republican Members of the New Hampshire House

Emailed to the entire caucus, Wednesday Morning, 2-27-2013

Honorable Republican Representatives,

In the wake of the errant email in which NH Gas tax sponsor David Campbell (D-Nashua) reveals the true nature of his proposal, I wanted to take a moment to offer up some relevant observations.

Mr. Campbell remarked that his gas tax will provide a bounty (I’m paraphrasing) of revenue (taxation) for other purposes.  It matters not whether he was being glib or just honest.  The facts are these.

Democrats Always Lie About Taxes and Spending

Democrats lie about taxes, spending, and caring about the middle class, and two opportunities to prove that have recently NH Democrats fleece taxpayers againpresented themselves.

First, Nashua Democrat David Campbell, from whose progressive womb sprang the 15 cent per gallon gas tax, recently remarked in an email to Democrat party leadership that the Democrat gas tax was…

…”the gift that keeps on giving”

“As my father used to say, ‘Don’t spend it all in one place!” Rep. David Campbell, D-Nashua, chairman of the House Public Works and Highways Committee, wrote on Friday in explaining that his gas tax hike bill will generate “bonus monies” for purposes not directly associated with highways, roads and bridges.

Not directly associated is right.

The gas tax will screw you, your family, your small business, and the entire  state economy out of millions more annually once fully implemented, money that will not go to wages, jobs, or anything but the Democrats government-first addiction.

HB617: Thanks to BOTH NH Democrats AND Republicans, filling up is going to cost us all $0.15 / gallon

Yup, that’s right.  The NH House’s Public Works and Highway Committee members decided that it was so durn important to fix roads and such, they couldn’t be bothered to really set a priority list and bump down others much less important (remember:  “Maggie the Marxist” – she choose diapers over students??  $2 million for adult diapers? great prioritization)  HB617 was just passed out of that Committee, 17-0, with nary a “limited government / less taxes” Republican throwing a single “Nay!”.  Not one Republican could say “er, is this really not a good thing to do right now with gas quickly heading towards $4 / gallon WITHOUT the State of NH helping it along??  Here are those Republicans:

Gene Chandler (r)
William Friel (r)
Edmond Gionet (r)
John Graham (r)
Walter Kolodziej (r)
Mark McConkey (r)
David Milz (r)
Franklin Tilton (r)
Kevin Waterhouse (r)

Yeah, one of them is “mine”: Frank Tilton from Belknap.  You got one too? Look at the first name, though: Minority Leader, Republican Gene Chandler.I guess in this time of skyrocketing gas prices for the regular folk, an 85% increase in the NH gas tax is but a mere pittance on behalf of the “Live Free or Die Leviathan”, eh? Not one of them asked themselves (as seen by their votes) “who needs their money more – us or them”?  Well, we know now BY THEIR OWN VOTES how they feel about “oh, you guys can make out fine with less“…  The current Highway trust account is so leaky, they have to create a brand new one?  And I forgot – raising ‘some” vehicle registration fees?  And the Republicans went along with this?

Nice messaging, dudes.  Lower income folks are already having to make hard decisions and you Republicans are just about to make it much harder…win friends, influence people, and gain Republican votes – GREAT GOING!  Good thing that Senator Chuck Morse has decided to be the adult Republican in the room and say “DOA when it comes over from the House”.  Yes, this is one bill I will be glad to see the Senate stop dead.

Yeah, I didn’t forget about the Democrats (after the jump)….they are probably loving the fact that the Republicans just gave them cover to raise a tax that hits everyone in the State.  I’m betting that somebody’s gonna have to go over and pick them up off the floor, they’ve been laughing so much….

Another Day With NH Democrats….Two More Taxes…or is it Six?

NH Roads and bridges - NH Democrats look to raise gas taxThe Concord Monitor is reporting on a  plan by New Hampshire Democrat David Campbell (D- Nashua), that would eventually extract $115,000,000.00 million more dollars per year out of the pockets of struggling New Hampshire families.  He’d like to raise the gas tax and the increase the cost to register your vehicles every year.

His ‘plan’ would raise the price you pay for gas five cents a year for three years.  At the same time the cost of your vehicle registration would also increase five dollars a year for three years.  So you’d’ see two separate tax increases every year for three years; is that two new taxes of six?

The promise, and given past experience this means nothing coming from a New Hampshire Democrat, is that they will use this additional tax money exclusively for road and bridge work.

We obviously need money for roads and bridges but I don’t think we need any new taxes and fees–so I have a better idea.

Why Not Cut The Gas Tax?

I’ve been suggesting for years now that cutting the cigarette tax would raise more revenue.  That is the point of a tax after all.  And with neighboring states that are stuck on stupid when it comes to the rules and affects of taxation any reduction will increase other commerce as people come over the border … Read more
