Opinion: The Queen of Burning Bridges

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on the Free State Project (FSP) and its leadership, and it’s opened my eyes to some troubling shifts. After this past legislative eye-opening session, I’ve grown increasingly concerned about the direction certain libertarian factions are taking. In a candid X post, I shared, “I’m increasingly concerned with FSP leadership (emphasis on leadership) … Read more

Smith: Unbundling The Sorens Manifesto

Zoning is an institution often misunderstood by many, myself included, so let’s delve into a 22-page treatise written by the founder of the Free State Project.  To use Ray Guarino’s favorite word, ACRIMONIOUS, as many recent discussions, both online and in person, have been just that, so it’s important to say that I mean zero … Read more

Is New Hampshire A Political Petri Dish?

Susan Olsen joins us for a discussion about a newest out-of-state funded anti-gun group in New Hampshire. We also touch on our allies  in the Free State Project, the looming expansion of Medicaid, the crony-scam that is the Regional Green House Gas Initiative (RGGI), and how what is sold as the Live Free or Die … Read more

An Open Letter to Foster’s Daily Democrat (Updated and Bumped)

letter to the editor[Update: I was just informed that the day after this post originally went up Foster’s Daily Democrat decided to publish Dan Davis’ letter.   We take no credit.  I’m sure it was just waiting in the slush pile for a space to open up and the timing is coincidental.  We do appreciate Foster’s making room on their pages for Dan’s side of that debate and hope it is a trend that will continue on other topics and issues of importance to Granite Staters.

Original post

The following is a letter from Dan Davis of Kensington to Foster’s Daily Democrat, in defense of Free Staters and the Free State project.  According to Dan and NH Seacoast Liberty (where I picked this letter up at Dan’s request), Foster’s has refused to publish it despite publishing editorials critical of the movement.

We think Foster’s can do whatever the hell it wants including being like most other print news outlets that use editorials and letters to the editor to advance their left leaning preferences in ways they might try to hide in their news and other reporting.   But in doing so they should expect to be called out for any obvious biased, one-sided, or misleading  reporting, especially when they do it in their letters section.

Mr. Davis has done exactly that.

As a lifelong NH resident, I am disappointed with recent Foster’s editorials which incorrectly demonize the Free State Project. The paper continually mischaracterizes the FSP as a monolithic force, whose members are conspiring to “take over NH.”

Some Free Advice To Free Staters

It is not beyond the pale to suspect Democrats of using anonymous blog handles and throw away email addresses, to pose as Free Staters in polls, surveys, and online social media, for the purpose of advancing their narrative, particularly after the national attention received by the tyrannical Cynthia Chase. The left has the money and … Read more

“What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming…”

WMUR has a story about a radio poll gone wild.  The Girard at Large program held an on-line poll seeking votes for Manchester New Hampshire person of the year; it attracted more than 44,000 responses complete with comments they thought were a bit over the top.

…on social media, the unofficial race turned ugly, with one author saying, “The only reason the cop is being nominated is because he was shot, not killed, while on the clock.”

Another writer used the word “pig” to reference another Manchester police officer who was killed in the line of duty. It was not the sort of dialogue Girard said he was expecting.

Wow.  Edgy!  And of course, no, not really, and the reporter must have sensed that.  Why else would they call New Hampshire Democrat House Rep. Cynthia Chase for her thoughts on the story?

The latest on the Free State Project…

…which is still growing! Despite some silliness from some self-described Freestaters—such as gratuitous law-breaking or fevered talk about “anarchy”—the movement is healthy, continuing, and even maturing.

In fact, many people moving into New Hampshire now as part of the Free State Project migration don’t even bother to identify as participants. Thus, the “official” count of just over 1,100 who have moved to the Granite State is probably understated.

So When Will Democrats Start Calling Me A Free Stater?

Free State - Seeking Liberty not left wing narrativesAll Democrats have narratives.  New Hampshire Democrats are no different.  The typical left wing narrative is designed to brain wash you by using the media to repeat the latest chest-beating tantrum, using sound bites, puff pieces, editorials, and press releases, to create a long term perception disguised as truth.  Did I mention that New Hampshire Democrats are no different?

There is a new narrative in New Hampshire.  This narrative infers that, despite the Democrats own treacherous policy record they are still a better gamble than those other people who are just plain scary.  Really scary.  Extremists.  Those… Free Staters.
