Welcome to your Monday, September twenty-eighth, two thousand and twenty-six morning update.
Fearmongers have tried all year to come up with something of a restrictive pandemic quality. Bird flu, ticks, hantavirus, Ebola, cyclosporiasis. They even tried monkeypox.
The only real threat to Americans is democrats.
But AI fear-mongering has been on the rise thanks to foreign influencers funded primarily by China, and the AI oligarchs have called for a shutdown. Hit the brakes. And now creepy tech bajillionaire Bill Gates says unregulated AI could kill a billion people.
Quote: Bill Gates has called on the US’s federal legislators and law enforcers to regulate the development of artificial intelligence, saying in an interview airing on Sunday that the technology left unchecked could cause a billion deaths, and no one thinks self-regulation is enough.
Spoken like a true tyrant.
You need law enforcement and the politicians to get into the discussion about what safeguards and monitoring look like, the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist said to Kristen Welker, the NBC Meet press host, and that has to be a required thing.
In other words, please protect my market share by making it as difficult as possible for anyone to catch up.
That truth applies to the interests of Gates, Altman, Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Ellison, Thiel, Brin, and Page, among others. The tech oligarchs have enough to deal with competing with each other. The last thing they need is for the next-gen Bezos or Musk to come along and reinvent the AI wheel.
Nothing new with that, and nothing really wrong with that. As long as everything is above board and transparent. And politicians can be swayed, especially in the US House. If enough constituents get on them fast enough and long enough to ensure that they feel like their reelection is in jeopardy if they do what the tech oligarchs want.
Same old song and dance, but Mr. Gates has added a not-so-new twist. He’s using the Murray model, and he’s applying it to AI. You remember the Murray model? At the beginning of COVID, it was the thing that scared the crap out of everyone.
It predicted catastrophic illness and death. It was the curve we were supposed to flatten. The problem with the Murray model is it was grotesquely flooded, and by April fifth, the people who created the Murray model had flattened their own curve. But governments large and small, already feeling all the energy from the oppression and tyranny that they’ve invoked on their people, couldn’t let it go.
And we had to put up with that crap for at least another two years. And if you’re talking about queer bars in Massachusetts, they’re still masking.
And of course, the non-COVID health harms will never be truly calculable for a disease that was only dangerous to about two percent of the globe’s population. Not to say that two percent of the globe’s population isn’t a bunch of people, but that’s what flu does.
As for AI, Gates is connected to the entire exercise, the AI exercise, and the pandemic exercise. And he’s predicting a billion deaths. Not because he cares a whole hell of a lot about human beings. He’s a depopulationist himself. This is his own personal fiscal, financial self-interest.
And just for contrast, how much did Bill Gates get right about COVID? Did he get anything right?
Which brings us back to the AI fear-mongering.
Using a term meant to describe an expense required to run a business, Gates continued, it will be a little bit of overhead for the industry, but not a dramatic showing of what they’re doing.
So suppressing any potential competition really won’t cost him much. It’s couch cushion money.
That’s not to say rogue AI wouldn’t be a problem, and while we’re at it, tech oligarchs and laws and regulations haven’t prevented hackers, but what they have done is create the white hat hacking industry, which survives as long as there’s a black hat hacking industry.
AI probably won’t be any different and the stagnation that comes from government created cartels to benefit Gates and others isn’t the answer. Free markets and competition are always what have made America great and resilient. Better at recovering from just about everything, including the response to COVID. And how does an American AI cartel and God help us, a globalist UN cartel, stop China or anyone else from advancing whatever they want? At whatever cost is required. In an effort to hold the world hostage the way Iran wanted to with a nuclear program.
What we need is to be better technologically and morally. And the Constitutional Republic, while imperfect, is still the best check on the abuse of political power on our planet.
Gates, Musk, and Altman, they don’t want AI to slow down. They want to slow down their competition. If they can get a tech equivalent of a COVID lockdown on AI, they can continue their own development, and improve their market share.
And it seems like the very people who would normally object to that sort of thing are the ones demanding it.
And not for nothing.
Unregulated Democrats and their love for socialism will kill a billion more people long before AI ever has the chance.
