As many people already know, the Belknap County Republican Committee is having a Country Gala at the Gunstock Ski Resort this coming Saturday starting at 5 PM, as a political fundraiser to support future Republican candidates. Our guest speaker will be US Senator and former Florida Governor Rick Scott.
We have already raised record-setting amounts by the sale of table sponsorships, and that message must have been discovered by some Democrats who have taken a page from the Alinsky political manual by calling on our table sponsors to withdraw their sponsorships, claiming that they should do so because (a) one of our sponsors is Belknap County NH Representative Dawn Johnson who is alleged to be anti-Semitic; and (b) an item in our silent auction is an autographed bumper sticker by a US Representative who is also allegedly anti-Semitic.
The charge of anti-Semitism against Dawn Johnson is old news going back nearly a year ago. It is based upon an inadvertent post on social media that contained a link to an anti-Semitic website. The post was promptly taken down when Rep Johnson learned about the web site to which her post linked and she apologized and clearly stated that she would not have included the link if she had known of its offensive character.
This writer, a Jew, wrote numerous letters to the editor, opinion pieces, and press releases defending Rep. Johnson when the issue first arose, and Rep Johnson continues to serve the people of her district and city with distinction, despite calls from people obviously on the left for her resignation.
In other words, this is nothing more than old news resurrected by Dems and other leftists obviously trying to disrupt our fundraising event.
But as a result of their social media frenzy about this issue, we have in the past day sold an additional table sponsorship and numerous additional general admission tickets to our event. We will not be intimidated or bullied by people on the left, whether they call themselves Dems or otherwise.
And we certainly do not need or accept advice on our fundraising from Dems or other leftists.
