Don Bolduc’s never-ending attacks against President Trump are monotonous: “Trump’s troubled second term boils down to leadership” Sept. 14). Yet when he ran for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire in 2020 and 2022, you fully supported Donald Trump. It’s easier to attack the remedy than to confront the reality.
General Bolduc’s claim of the Trump administration’s abandonment of MAGA is an unsourced characterization. It is simply not true. If you’re not a member of the MAGA grassroots movement, it isn’t rational to purport to speak for members of it. According to The Independent’s U.S. edition, a recent poll found MAGA supporters gave Trump a 100 percent rating. Other surveys, all public record, have shown MAGA supporters giving Trump 90% to 93% on his job rating, refuting Bolduc’s assumptions.
When making claims about the “lagging” job creation and an economic downfall under the current administration, General Bolduc seems to have missed the boat. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs report for August 2026 shows 162,000 jobs added, and the unemployment rate at 4.1%. The inflation rate is 3.4%. As a comparison, under the Biden presidency it peaked 9% and 21.5% respectively.
One claim the general makes that I find extremely surprising, given his military service, is that the administration’s “questionable fiscal policies” concerning an “out-of-control” budget favor military spending. He further asserts that it raises questions about long-term economic stability. Has he forgotten that military spending stimulates economic growth by channeling resources into the private sector? Plus, military investment can also lead to new technologies. Not to mention the adage “peace through strength” – meaning America is the strongest country in the world.
General Bolduc seems to forget that in Trump’s first term as president, there were no wars. The Obama administration had Libya, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, among others. The Biden administration had Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, among others. Again, the general uses innuendo as a substitute for proof when he claims the Trump administration’s penchant for “wars of choice” has strained U.S. credibility in the international arena. His false claims of hasty engagements and shifting policy principles that alienate our allies are unsupported by evidence.
Bolduc’s claim of a lack of diplomacy by the Trump administration is pure conjecture. No evidence shows that global perception of the U.S. has sunk to the level of an unreliable partner. In public statements and government reports, it has been documented that Iran is skilled at prolonging negotiations, and President Trump has exhausted all diplomatic efforts to negotiate with a country the U.S. simply cannot fully trust.
In less than two years, President Trump has driven the most consequential stretch of governing in modern American history. He sealed the border, drove violent crime to historic lows, unleashed American energy, cut taxes for working families, and deployed American strength on the global stage.
Contrary to the general’s perception, at the heart of all the issues of Trump administration ‘legitimacy’ (Bolduc’s word, not mine) is lawfare. It is judicial tyranny. We have unelected lower-court judges overruling the president’s legal actions and the executive branch at every step. This is the true crisis of legitimacy: dozens of activist judges trying to stop Trump’s agenda any way they can.
Democrats have injected activist leftist judges’ opinions into the courts, overstepping their boundaries into the executive branch. It’s a violation of the separation of Powers under the Constitution.
But the Left prefers to ignore the Constitution when it benefits them, and continues their proselytizing. Not one judge ever blocked Obama or Biden agendas. That is the deepening division and troubling misuse of power – not by Trump, as Bolduc would have you believe.
As Patrick Hynes, president of Novus Public Affairs, once wrote in his UL column, the notion that Trump is crashing the economy is merely performative. Democrats would do well to ignore the overwrought headlines about Trump; otherwise, they will spend the next four years worrying the sky is about to fall, only to be shocked, yet again, when it doesn’t.
Perhaps General Bolduc should shake the Trump-hating cobwebs out of his head and take that advice. I’d suggest he focus on substantive policies that really matter to the voters, like election integrity. Also worth his attention: the recent legislative service request (HB 2027-0240) filed in Concord by Rep. Ellen Read (D-Rockingham 10) proposing an income tax and sales tax in New Hampshire. That would be energy well spent fighting Democrats’ incessant push to force new taxes on New Hampshire voters.
