Libertarians vs. Republicans Charity Hockey Game [Final Score 7-5 ]

The Fourth Annual Libertarians vs. Republicans Charity Hockey Game was Saturday, and it turned out to be a high-scoring, fast-paced spectacle. The Libertarian team had 49 shots on goal with the Republicans making 43. In the end, those extra shots made the difference as the Libertrains skated away with a 7 – 5 victory.

This year’s benefactor of funds raised was Education Options (EdOpt) run by Jodi Underwood, one of our authors who has written about the organization extensively on our pages.

The game took place at the Tri-Town Ice Arena in Hookset to a well-attended and rowdy crowd, who didn’t have to wait long for the scoring to start.

Note: I am not a sports writer, and while I like hockey, I don’t watch it or follow it, so bear with me here.

The Libertarian team drew first blood with 8:50 left in the first period, with the Republicans returning the favor with only 1:46 left. The Libertarians had a power play opportunity with 57 seconds left in the first period (the only penalty called during the game), but were unable to capitalize on it. But the Libertarians dominated the puck in the first period, keeping it in the Republicans’ zone for most of the first period.

The Libertarians scored again with 11:03 and 9:49 left in period two. Additional goals were scored with 7:28 (R), 3:21 (L), and 2:14 (R) left in the second period, with Republicans showing some extra life midway through. The period ending Libertrains 4 Republicans 3.

Early in Period three the Republicans tied it up but the Libertarain team answered four minutes later with 12:58 left in the game.

Republicans scored with 4:08 left (L6, – R5) until, with 37 seconds left, the Libertarians scored again on an empty Republican net.

Everyone had a good time, even the Republicans. Chris Maidemnt, who wore #4 for team R, said, “We win the elections. They can win the hockey game.”

I shot a lot of video, mostly short clips, including a few goals. Here’s a montage of some random video of the game.
