From the Women’s Defense League
On Thursday, March 13th, both chambers of the New Hampshire Legislature shot down gun confiscation bills.
Both of the bills started out as the exact same legislation. There were a few amendments to the House bill, but those amendments actually made the bill even worse, with each amendment. Both bills were still gun confiscation bills that also shredded 2nd Amendment rights.
Senate – SB 144
The senate shot down SB 144 as ‘Inexpedient to Legislate.’ The sponsor of the bill tried to claim it would stop violent criminals to no avail. It will not stop any crimes nor suicides. The senators opposed to the bill discussed the constitutional problems with it and urged the senate to vote against it.
Thanks to the calls and emails from 2nd Amendment supporting Granite Staters across the state, the NH Senate voted against the bill by party lines – 16 Republicans to 8 Democrats.
House – HB 159
This bill is a little trickier. HB 159 was voted to be ‘Laid on the Table,’ which means it could be brought back at any time. Why? Because there are too many ‘Republicans’ who don’t take their Oath of Office seriously. Most seem to be former police officers-turned-NH-legislators whose allegiance is with the police as opposed to their constituents and upholding NH’s constitution.
The bill was still ‘shot down,’ but not completely killed as it should be.
Next Steps
We’ll keep you posted if HB 159 rears its ugly head again and we’ll take stock of those legislators who support it. Yes, we’ll be naming names.
In the meantime, breathe easy because, once again, gun control legislation went nowhere in New Hampshire this session and that is thanks to everyone who fights against it. Your calls and emails really do make a difference.
This is why we continue to hold our annual 2A rallies at the State House every year! You can find more information about that below:
