Why Do We Need Metal Detectors and X-Ray Machines in The State House?

Ten Democrats and two ‘republicans’ have sponsored a bill to create a committee whose job it would be “to study the feasibility and implementation of certain state house complex safety and security procedures.”

It sounds benign enough, but if you read HB477—once you get past the bits about how the committee shall be comprised—the proposed “considerations” regarding “safety” strike me as another Democratic party solution in search of a problem.

III. The commission shall study the feasibility of implementing safety practices for the
general court, including but not limited to:
(a) The use of metal detectors.
(b) The use of x-ray machines.
(c) The use of security cameras.
(d) The use of visitor sign-in and identification.
(e) The implementation of a staff identification badge policy.
(f) The carrying of deadly weapons on complex grounds.
(g) Security and safety training for staff and lawmakers.
(h) Policies responding to threats of violence and intimidation from members of the
public targeting lawmakers, staff, and state house visitor

We currently do not have any of this, primarily because either existing law or policy forbids it. Oh, and there’s no evidence we’d need it. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no incidents at the State House to inspire an escalation in added fixed costs to create layers of security one might navigate to gain access to the building. And yet here we are, proposing a committee to study its feasibility.

How about a committee to study the feasibility of this as a backdoor left-wing effort to deny citizens their Second Amendment rights in the State House? Or is it just a weasel word, camel’s nose, means to create a conversation about problems we do not have.

Some would say, yet. We don’t have them yet. Fair enough, but there is a bigger problem that justifies killing HB477. Democrat projection. The very real inability of proglodytes to separate emotion from practice or policy and the projection of visceral left-wing violence on everyone else to deny them their rights.

They can’t trust themselves with guns, or because they are so filled with hate, you must be too.

We’re all just sitting ducks or fish in a barrel waiting for the Granite State’s 9/11.

If Democrats are that worried, why not save the taxpayers a lot of time and money and learn to shoot and carry a firearm yourself … after subjecting yourselves to a voluntary mental health evaluation, an enhanced background check, a waiting period, proof of training, and a signed affidavit giving the state the right to abrogate your due process rights and search or seize you or your property because some anonymous “citizen” suggested you were a threat?

That sounds awful, but that’s your agenda, not mine, so lead by example. You are, after all, the people you are most afraid of.
