Urgent Action Alert: NH House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee Hearings on January 30th

The New Hampshire House is back in session and the real fight begins

There is a lot to tell you in this email alert:

First, the bill that we warned you about several weeks ago is now House Bill 159  Rep. Roy and Rep. Lacelles have not withdrawn their names and they have co-sponsored this red-flag gun control measure with one of the democrats. The bill is almost verbatim to House Bill 1711 from last year. They corrected a typo and removed one extraneous word “court” from the text.

There are no changes to the due process portion of the bill. The bill still lacks the necessary due process to take away someone’s constitutionally protected God-given rights. Most importantly, it still sends names to the failed NICS system.

Next, This Thursday, January 30th, the New Hampshire House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee will convene in Room 202-204 of the Legislative Office Building to discuss several bills that could significantly impact your Second Amendment rights. Here’s what you need to know and how you can act:

HB 56-FN – Oppose: This bill mandates background checks and introduces a waiting period for certain firearm transfers. It’s an unnecessary hurdle for law-abiding citizens, infringing on our right to bear arms swiftly and without undue governmental intrusion. Your right to own firearms should not be delayed by bureaucratic red tape.

HB 207-FN – Support: This legislation seeks to repeal the prohibition on the possession or sale of blackjacks, slung shots, and metallic knuckles to those who are of age. It’s about restoring freedom and personal choice to responsible adults. This bill aligns with our values of less government control over personal defense tools.

HB 352-FN – Oppose: Prohibiting the possession of firearms at polling places is an attack on our right to self-defense in a place where we exercise our civic duty. This bill does not make polling places safer but instead leaves voters potentially vulnerable and disarmed.

HB 381-FN – Support: By exempting in-state manufactured firearms from the National Firearm Act, this bill supports local businesses and reduces federal overreach into our state’s firearms laws. It’s crucial for maintaining New Hampshire’s tradition of firearm manufacturing and ownership.

HB 506-FN – Support: This bill would create a process for returning firearms and ammunition where those firearms have been taken unjustly. The text of the bill is going the correct direction, but might need tweaks.

HB 551-FN – Support: Repealing the license to sell pistols and revolvers simplifies the process for lawful sellers and buyers, reducing government oversight where it’s not needed. Let’s keep the state out of our businesses and uphold our rights to commerce.

HB 609-FN – Support: This bill aims to reinforce the General Court’s authority over firearms and self-defense tools, potentially curbing federal overreach. It’s essential for preserving state sovereignty in matters of personal freedom and safety.

Your Action is Crucial:

Write to the Committee: Make your voice heard. Send emails to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee at HouseCriminalJusticeandPublicSafety@leg.state.nh.us (mailto:HouseCriminalJusticeandPublicSafety@leg.state.nh.us). Clearly state your position on each bill:

Oppose HB 56-FN, HB 352-FN

Support HB 207-FN, HB 381-FN, HB 506-FN, HB 551-FN, HB 609-FN

Personalize Your Message: Share why these bills matter to you. Personal stories or concerns about rights and freedoms can make a powerful impact.

Attend the Hearing if Possible: Showing up in person can amplify our message. The hearing is at Room 202-204, LOB, Concord, NH, on January 30th.

This is our moment to stand firm for our rights. Let’s show the committee that New Hampshire’s gun owners will not stand for further erosion of our Second Amendment freedoms.

Together, we can influence the outcome of these bills. Act now, and let’s keep New Hampshire free.

JR Hoell, Secretary
