Ask Your Reps to Oppose Dangerous House Rule Change

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the full New Hampshire House will meet to discuss and vote on proposed changes to the House rules. One of those changes, an amendment to House rules 44-52, would be an undemocratic change to the current legislative process in New Hampshire by preventing the public from speaking and voicing their opinion on a bill.

This proposed change would allow a committee to table a bill before a public hearing, if 3/4 of the committee votes in favor of such a motion. This tabling would mean that NO public hearing would occur for that bill.

The proposed amendment is an attack on bills heard in committees that often lack fair representation on certain issues. For example, the House Judiciary Committee has historically been stacked by leadership with a pro-abortion majority, even in times when the majority of the House voted in a pro-life manner, such as the multiple repeal attempts of the Fetal Life Protection Act under Chair Ned Gordon.

This rule change is an attempt to undermine the longstanding tradition in our legislature that ensures that every single bill receives a public hearing and Granite State constituents are heard.

🚨 If this rule passes, it will change the future landscape of Granite State legislation.
