Following this morning’s alert on getting a school budget tax cap approved, I bring you another throne in the SAU and School board’s “paw.” Al Brabdabo has proposed, in the town of Kensington, a warrant to be voted on that would approve an audit of the SAU’s accounting practices.
To be conducted by an accredited accounting firm, to identify possible accounting practice deficiencies.
Which could uncover; misuse of taxpayer funds, lack of cost controls, and best practices. Accounting firm publish a public report of results back to the citizens on or before Oct 1. 2025.
School District Admininstrative Units are a huge waste of taxdollars and need very much to be reconsidered (they need to go away), but in the interim, a forensic audit to look for waste, fraud, and abuse (or any other misbehavin’) is one way to get things at least a bit more under control.
You can get this done with a majority vote of local citizens in your upcoming town election.
The attached examples are for Kensington and can serve as a template for your actual warrant article.
warrent-art.-school-cost-study-templet-final-to-btThe example above includes this cost card you would create for your town to promote support for the audit.
To get started, you need to collect twenty-five signatures in support of your warrant. You can use the Kensington version as a template to show to voters, and you can use this to collect signatures for when you submit your warrant to have it added to your local town ballot.
