Mr. Speaker, Stop Rewarding Enemies of 91A!

I’m sure many people are hoping that I will let it go, but I won’t. 88 Rs voted to obstruct access to public records last spring by supporting the RTK tax, aka HB 1002. 22 of them are no longer in office and I’m pleased to say that one of those 22 is former Judiciary Vice Chair Scott Wallace.

And speaking of his vice chairmanship, I just saw a tweet from the Speaker and he has given leadership positions, sometimes multiple positions, to the following 24 enemies of 91A:

  • Alexander
  • Burnham
  • Creighton
  • DeSimone
  • Doucette
  • Edwards
  • Harb
  • Harvey
  • Hunt
  • Janigian
  • Ladd
  • Lynn
  • MacDonald
  • Milz
  • Moffett
  • Mooney
  • Ouellet
  • Pauer
  • Pearson
  • Potucek
  • Spilsbury
  • Thomas
  • Walsh
  • Weyler

It appears that there are now 25 standing committees, so that’s 50 committee leadership positions, plus the ones for the House itself, making the 24 reps mentioned above almost 50% of the House’s ruling class. House Rs had an opportunity to replace the Speaker with Rep Turcotte and it’s my intuition that he would have made much better leadership appointments, but please riddle me this. In an alternate universe, in the event of a Rep Rice speakership, would we have the same number of enemies of 91A in leadership?

No matter what your answer is to that question, everyone on the naughty list has an opportunity to repent because Louise Andrus’s LSR 2025-0060 appears to be the undoing of HB 1002, and the chance to support it is available to the whole house, including Rep Kuttab and Judge Lynn.
