One of the go-to whines for Democrats is to say that Global Warming™ – they call it Climate Change now – will seriously impact [insert name of local revenue stream here]. In NH, it’s Leaf-peeping, Skiing (tourism), Maple Syrup, and people of color. In Maine, it’s probably potatoes and lobsters.
The cure is more taxes, public transportation, more and higher taxes, higher fuel and energy prices, even more, and higher taxes, and more government control. All things the whiney Democrats swoon over. Did I mention more and higher taxes?
It’s enough to make even a casual observer suspicious.
We’ve been hearing this for thirty years. None of that has come to pass. And promises of catastrophic decline often result in setting or breaking a record. Can we blame global warming for that?
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine potato growers have dealt with storage and shipping difficulties having pulled a record harvest from the ground, but the bumper crop also means more spuds are going to markets across the country and into Canada.
The state’s farmers planted more potatoes this year — more than 58,000 acres, compared with 51,000 the past two years — and also harvested 168,000 tons more than usual.
An additional 8k acres produced 168,000 more TONS of potatoes. They’ve got so many that they are using rail for the first time in 40 years to move all the spuds.
Global Warming!
Or maybe it was COVID?
I love potatoes, and Main is right next door, which suggests that while my store shelves grow empty thanks to “experts” Mayor Pete and Uncle Joe, I’ll still be able to find and eat the things. And afford them.
Don’t let them know. They’ll find a way to screw that up too.
