MACDONALD: Woke Dr. Who & Woke Disney Part Ways (Declining Ratings)

We like to give the social-justice warriors at Netflix a hard Time, but Disney, as a platform, has lost a lot of credibility in the past decade, all because it let the #Wokeasaurus in the door. Its reimaging of the Star Wars universe may have resulted in some spectacular backgrounds and film-making innovations (something the series has always done), but the foreground ruined it. They let the culture warriors cat ladies poop in the sandbox.

What used to set my heart racing, “New Star Wars anything,” doesn’t even move the needle. I grew up on the universe, but Disney’s mishandling, along with all that and the other woke garbage, and we were not the only ones who canceled that streaming service. I’m sure they got their four billion back, but they may want to hire new milkmaids before they go back to that cow.

And what of Dr. Who? I had no idea Disney was into a two-year deal where it dumped millions per episode into a series the #woke wankers at the BBC had been trying to kill off for years. The massive surge in popularity they got with David Tennant, Matt Smith, proped up Peter Capaldi (whom I liked well enough), but then they made the Doctor a woman and then a black man. I think Jodi Whitaker, who is not an incapable actress, was just a time leap too far.

My favorites were Tom Baker and Matt Smith, if anyone cares.

Jodi actually had one of the longest runs for the gig, exceeded only by Tennant and Baker despite the slide. In the end, they leaped to a Black actor (hadn’t done that yet), and despite Disney investing many millions per episode for two years, dismal ratings have caused the House that Walt Built and the elites ruined, to drop the show.

The BBC might be sweeping for Doctor Who after its recent cancellation and Disney pulling out of the partnership because of low ratings, but a former Disney executive and other Disney insiders spilled to the media exactly what we’ve been saying since the beginning: that the show was a ratings disaster hated by the fanbase.

I’m wondering if they would reconsider if they replaced Ncuti Gatwa with a transgender woman in a mixed-race, illegal “alien” relationship?

The BBC is searching for other American investors to help them finance future episodes.

And yes, a Disney insider is trying to blame Trump’s America for the declining interest in the program and Disney’s exit.

One Disney exec blamed a lack of marketing for its failure, though it was pretty clear the content was the problem. “It certainly wasn’t being shouted about as a big success,” he said.

One Disney exec said it was “too woke for Trump’s USA,” and this was “a factor in Disney’s minds.” Even though these people blame Trump, Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who was premiering far before Trump was elected and touted well before that. Wokeism was never popular, whether Trump was in the picture or not, and many of these entertainment companies vastly overestimated the appeal of turning hard left.

In related news, Mr. Trump is also to blame for the free-range, fair-trade, artisanal arugula in their refrigerator turning brown before they ate it all.
