Victor Davis Hanson just dropped a new term to describe the Democrat crime lords calling themselves mayors who oversee the party’s larger urban left-wing vote farms. Those big blue cities that skew the crime numbers that try to hide illegal border jumpers, especially if they are child sex trafficking rapists or murderers. They rely heavily on federal handouts but cry like lost children at the mall when they don’t get them.
It is a curious contradiction.
Democrats create federal programs to fund state and local governments with strings attached. The goal is not to fund programs but to centralize power by creating dependence and control. Dems and RINOs alike take the bait offered without question, deflecting concerns from taxpayers about obligations tied to the funding.
Typically, if you fail or refuse to follow the rules, you must repay the money, or the seed money is contingent on taxpayers covering the costs it created after initial funding, or you must repay it.
It’s always a trap, but Democrats keep building them, and progressive officials keep dragging their constituents into them, knowing they are the only ones who won’t pay. Then Trump got elected, and two things happened.
First, he said, since we get to set the rules, you have to do this and that, or you lose this funding. The Democrats, who were happy with the past extortion, balk and sue to keep the money flowing. At the same time, they discover State Sovereignty and reject acts that are legitimate expressions of federal power, like the general government protecting citizens, no matter how blue, from illegal criminal alien gangs and other undocumented border jumpers.
VDH names the contradiction as only he can.
“Neo-Confederate Nullificationists.”
They want to let them eat cake and have thers too. Or, something like that. To enjoy the free ride, and the systemic centralization of Federal power, without being subject to any provisions to which they object.
The Feds are always granted complete control over border security and management of illegals in the interior when Democrats run things. That includes dumping millions of them here even if they don’t provide funding, which leads many a dem, including our freshly minted Blue Neo-Confederate Nullificationists, to whine about the burden, some declaring states of emergency. But when Trump wants to unburden them, as is his right and role, they are sovereign city-states and nation-states.
I say, let them have the latter, but with all the burdens and consequences, which do not include national or border security. In other words, no more federal money for anything that isn’t required by federal law (which Republican majorities should work to reverse, and we’re still coming in and doing our job to defend your citizens from the criminal crime you’ve allowed to fester.
