Democrats in the Deep State did a lot of naughty things when it came to shutting down free speech, especially during the pandemic. But now, because of something Trump or his FC implied, Congressional Dems are rushing forward with a bill that would have prevented everything the Biden Admin did or tried to get away with to suppress speech.
A group of congressional Democrats said on Thursday that they would introduce legislation to bolster legal protections for people targeted by President Trump for speaking freely, moving to counter his administration’s threats to weaponize the government against his political opponents. …
A summary of the bill, entitled the No Political Enemies Act, or NOPE, outlined a series of legal protections for people targeted for political speech. It said the bill would create a specific legal defense for those targeted for political reasons and allow them to recover attorney fees if they were subjected to government harassment for expressing their views.
And it would make it easier to sue federal officials for abusing their power to silence critics.
And you’d get to collect legal fees if you win! That isn’t always likely with regular First Amendment infringement claims. Talk about standing up for Free Speech, assuming they are serious.
So, I love this bill! I haven’t seen or read the fine print, but that snapshot sounds promising. Trump Derangement Syndrome to the rescue of Free Speech.

And as I noted in Friday morning’s AM update, Kimmel wasn’t canceled, certainly not by the FCC or El Presidente Trump. He’s free to keep talking everywhere normal people communicate openly, and in a few places they can’t. Heck, he could insist he’s a woman and get a gig on The View (if it weren’t on ABC). Imagine the sexual discrimination suit potential of that? If women can have a penis, they can wear suits and act like men! As for his former network TV platform, ABC’s advertisers and affiliates, along with Parent Disney, kicked him off that after Kimmel promised not to apologize or take his remarks back. He promised to double down. More serial lies about a criminal act, which is, apparently, a violation of FCC rules and grounds for loss of public broadcast license. Trump didn’t write that; some previous act of Democracy was involved.
So, Disney didn’t need threats from The GovernmentTM, real or imagined, but that appears to be what concerns the Democrats, as if they really cared about free speech.
Had Americans enjoyed access to a law like NOPE during the pandemic, everything would have been different. This is precisely what has been missing— a viable way for ordinary citizens to sue the government over speech suppression.
Do they realize just how awful this is for future Democratic administrations (assuming we eventually have one)? How do they scratch their chronic totalitarian itch if they can’t use the FBI and threats of force against Facebook, X (the Twitter files), outspoken parents at school boards, or anyone who dares to disagree with the Democrat Party line?
Hate speech (hate crimes), microaggressions, and the entire anti-free speech industrial complex that is Democrat rule become opportunities to sue the Feds for violating free speech rights they systemically despise. But here they are doing work the Right could only dream about, convincing Republicans to propose and support. And all it took was kicking Kimmel to the curb. And not one politician actually did that.

If the law as proposed were in effect today, as far as the Kimmel thing is concerned, no one would have grounds to sue anyone for anything, which is what makes this so damn amusing. And how do they not realize what this does to them?
Does their Trump Derangement Syndrome so blinker them that they are convinced Trump won’t sign it and that’ll be their proof that he’s a tyrant? Gosh, I hope so. Can you imagine? Free speech plus legal fees.
Boom!
Can we get this at the state level, maybe? Talk about pro-liberty legislation.
