One of the glories of the free market is that, absent meddling, controls, or fraud (or despite it), it solves almost any problem anyone has (and a few we didn’t know we had) by discovering what people want, need, and what they are willing to pay for. It directs investment into ideas aimed at identifying and solving current and future problems, while filtering out others. People willingly invest their own money in things, including charities, that provide value and are more apt to pay attention to ensure that continues to be the case.
Things with no value have to be funded by government force, stealing from this and future generations to prop up something no one but politicians or their friends and family wants or needs.
Most NGOs are not Non-governmental; they are black bag operations funded by passthroughs to engage in partisan political operations—funding wars against the people and the culture. A lot of damage was done when Trump and Rubio took a cleaver to the USAID NGO mill, with more of that on display as Trump’s Secretaries gutted the DEI and Climate divisions of every agency under the federal umbrella. Add to that redundancy and bloat (like multiple unnecessary civil rights offices), and the Trump Administration has cut off or drained billions from bureaucrats who tithe to the Democrat party to protect their destructive make-work jobs. Dead weight, the left is claiming we need, but that time will prove we do not.
NGO Planned Parenthood
Women don’t need Planned Parenthood (PP) either, and the market is proving it true.
Absent other people’s money, including people who will never have, need, or want an abortion, PP has to close “clinics.” Without federal funds, or quite often state or local redistributions, it can’t sustain itself. There isn’t enough business. [ Related: Scaer: One of Every Three Planned Parenthood Facilities Has Closed]
Advocates will insist that this isn’t true and that, in fact, all this does is deny low-income women a way to end unwanted pregnancies. But that’s a lie, too. If the need was both great and worthy, private money, which is abundant on the left, could easily support many of these more rural clinics. Any one of New Hampshire’s four Democrat horsemen of the abortion apocalypse could write a check to fund them for years without missing it. If all four did, they’d have money for a decade, assuming it wasn’t mismanaged or embezzled.
Benefactors of liberal largesse at taxpayer expense are prone to overpay themselves to mismanage the rest of the finances. That is perhaps why democrats did not save any of the clinics that had to close. Or they are raging hypocrites and thieves who understand the truth.
Women don’t need Planned Parenthood as much as the Democrat Party. It launders millions into their political campaigns, wrangles protesters, and funds messaging that lies about abortion being women’s health care.
Interestingly, and in opposition, Pregnancy Care centers, which are almost universally funded by private donors, are popping up all over the place. These “clinics” help women work through the emotional landscape of unwanted pregnancy before or after an abortion, if that is what they decide to do. They also give the real options for having the baby, including adoption, parenting lessons, mental and physical health support, advice on how to be a mother or a father, and more. Staffed by volunteers with one or two paid staff, typically including a licensed nurse, they treat women and their babies as people, encourage fathers to be part of their child’s life, and explain why this is beneficial for everyone.
Personal, thoughtful, positive, and constructive conversation about everyone’s life, at this new juncture.
The growth of this segment is quite remarkable, particularly in the shadow of Planned Parenthood’s circumstances, the firebombing and vandalism of Care centers, and the Democrat party’s abortion is health care drumbeat.
If women need Planned Parenthood, why aren’t rich Democrats donating to them? Why are they unable to operate without taxpayer support when pregnancy care centers are blossoming without it?
Planned Parenthood exists to give money to Democrats, not the other way around, and if it can’t do that, then it serves no real purpose, so, what then?
Most hospitals, by the way, can or will perform an abortion if it is medically necessary, and, at least for now, you can still order an abortion by mail, which, as far as I can tell, isn’t helping local Democrats much. They aren’t getting kickbacks from pill makers, and while abortion providers can help, the markup isn’t enough to keep them afloat or create the sort of disposable income that would allow for large donations to Democratic candidates.
This is why organizations like Planned Parenthood have branched out into gender “transition” drugs and surgical referrals. But there’s no future in that. The drugs are not a significant driver of profit; the surgeries, while few and expensive, are done in hospitals, and both result in fewer childbearing women looking to end pregnancies.
Remember, abortion is their core business.
The treatments are also proving useless and unpopular with medical professionals and the public. Planned Parenthood is a business model looking for a way to stay in business, and without other people’s money, it doesn’t look like it can.
We won’t miss it if it fails, but there is a small light at the end of this increasingly dark tunnel. Abortions are probably not something AI will replace.
