Tariffs as Foreign Policy haters almost had a policy orgasm yesterday when a rarely-heard-of court exceeded its power and told Trump he had to stop with all this tariff business. It was an uncomfortable moment. There are dozens, if not scores, of favorable deals in motion that benefit working-class Americans because of the tariff threats. Billions, if not trillions, in investment potential or increased opportunity for American markets overseas.
Three dudes no one has ever heard of shouted stop, and the never-trump deep state cheered…a bit too soon.
Before you could say we finally got him, the Trade Court’s boss, the Court of Appeals, said, ‘Not so fast, junior.’ The trade court order was stayed with prejudice, allowing the Trump Administration to continue using tariffs to negotiate deals that benefit Main Street America until further notice.
Long enough to get a lot more done before this elevates the judicial ladder for more serious consideration.
I know, many think that Trump is playing fast and loose with the rules. Congress said this or did that, which is true to a point. Congress, with the help of many of the same people who are whining about how fast Trump is making America Great Again, either gave that power to some other President or excused or defended its use.
Middle fingers all around, I’d say, but the quick reassertion of tariffs as a Foreign Policy hammer isn’t the only good thing to happen. A lot was happening while that story briefly dominated the news cycle.
Over just the last 48 hours, we’ve seen the State Department threaten visas of foreign officials who violate Americans’ First Amendment rights— Rubio’s unstated doctrine of reciprocal sovereignty. Dan Bongino, now head of domestic intelligence, announced formal investigations into the Dobbs leaker, the J6 pipe bomb suppression, and the FBI’s staged Whitmer kidnapping. Pam Bondi summarily stripped the ABA of its power to vet judicial nominees. And Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulled the plug on Moderna’s $600 million pandemic boondoggle, declaring the bird flu mRNA contract “neither scientifically nor ethically justifiable.”
Yes, there are a lot of things we want that we can’t have or at least not yet. Some things refuse to pander to our confirmation bias. When Patel and Bongino said there’s no evidence Epstein did not kill himself, the first thing people thought was that they had been turned and were not traitors.
Maybe take a breath.
I know, what do I do with all those memes? Maybe make new ones? There’s plenty of fodder. And Trump’s only been in office for four months.
Most of what has happened already may take years to solidify, but while we wait, the Trump Administration isn’t. The freight train is rolling fast, and the cow catcher is knocking the rotten deep state cattle off the rails faster than they can find judges to try and stop it – all of which will inevitably have its day of reckoning.
If it is not in motion, it will be. Your job, our job, is to make sure Mr. Trump has a Republican congress in 2027 and 2028 to try and get it all done.
Focus on that.
