Pennsylvania’s sometimes here, sometimes not US Senator, John Fetterman, has had a fascinating journey. His inability or refusal to wear a suit in the US Senate prompted the leadership to soften the dress code so he could show up in sweatshorts and hoodies. I’m a big fan of the look, but even the US Senate ought to have some sort of decorum.
More recently, Fetterman has said any number of things you’d expect from a properly contained member of any Democrat caucus. The most recent is an admission that Trump’s NYC prosecution by Alvin Bragg was politically motivated.
“I think it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated, but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump [was] political too,” Fetterman said. “In both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate and I think collectively, I think Americans’ confidence in these institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases and we can’t allow these kinds of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents and it’s very clear, both trials were politically motivated and weaponized on the other side.”
I think you’d have difficulty finding a case bought during the Biden administration that isn’t politically motivated. And while Fetterman didn’t elaborate, I agree that Hunter’s case was political but for different reasons. The younger Biden’s laptop, now admittedly not Russian Disinformation, includes hundreds of dirty deeds. Prosecution was not proposed until after it was acknowledged as legitimate. They had to charge him with something, which they did, and no one with any sense believed it was for any other reason than to distract us from the rest of it. We were also certain, despite contrary remarks, that he’d get a pardon. That was the point. That’s the entire point. Charge and convict him of low-level crimes (for rich kids) so you can absolve him of everything.
If you or I were charged with tax evasion or anything illegal related to firearms, we’d be in prison, or after that, you can say, ” I never had sexual relations with that woman.” Or, “Joe Biden is as sharp as he’s ever been.” Or, the Bidne Crim family didn’t create shell companies to launder influence peddling while Joe was Obama’s VP.
Hunter received a blanket pardon, and now Senator Fetterman is justifying it by arguing that Trump also deserves a pardon. The idea is Verboten in any other context, even absent all the other Trump prosecutions, which are all political and likely to lead back to the Biden White House.
The question now is, why is Fetterman, the Muppet of the moment, chosen to float this narrative? Or is this just another one of those weird things that come out of the mouth of a guy recovering from a brain injury?
