I doubt anyone believed Joe Biden when he said he’d respect the legal process and let the jury decide Hunter Biden’s fate.
“I’m extremely proud of my son, Hunter. He has overcome an addiction. He’s one of the brightest, most decent men I know,” Biden said in June. “And I am satisfied that I’m not going to do anything. I said — I said I’d abide by the jury decision. I will do that and I will not pardon him.”
On Sunday, “Joe” pardoned his son. When the news broke, I looked at my wife and told her something she already knew. The White House manipulated the timing of the trial and prosecution to ensure that Joe could claim proof of apolitical bipartisan prosecution and then pardon Hunter anyway. [A notion I’d shared previously]. She politely nodded the way she does when I repeat myself, which I do.
[BTW – Mixed reactions to Joe’s pardon, including from Dems who see it as a bad look]
I know that people breaking the law are breaking the law, but the Left has done a fair job of projecting their weaponization of justice as something the Republican President is likely to pursue. At the same time, we’d love to see some corruptocrats behind bars. We also want to do better in the midterms than in 2018 and 2022. America also needs the MAGA agenda to win in 2028. Perception politics matters all the way down-ticket.
Democrats in New Hampshire, for example, are rumored to have given up on the 2025-2026 session. Instead, they amassing a war chest and ground game to take it back in two years. They will target every seat they think they can flip and find some way to blow Republicans out of the water on TV, online, and at the ballot box. It did not work in 2024, but there will be no top ticket draw in 2026. Turnout on the right is traditionally down, while Dems will be itching to flip some seats.
If they succeed, it is a small matter of undoing whatever gets done and everything before it. They will chase Vermont and Maine down the bilge hole as fast as they can.
The 2026 election started on November 6th; They will be ready, will we?
It is a fair question. Republicans need to work to prepare for that fight now, and what happens on the national stage matters locally. I think Hunter is probably safe from further investigation unless it makes political sense to pursue him for something else – a crime so heinous it helps the Republican position. One that exposes the depths of depravity and corruption in the deep state they have promised to clean up.
In the meantime, feel free to ask a Democrat what they think about Joe pardoning Hunter after saying he would not. If they answer you, please let us know.
