Making the Government Live By the Same Rules as Everyone Else

Words from years ago yet with an impact. Sorrowfully, they are needed as we, as an American Society, are hanging over that precipice of the proverbial tipping point: “Who is serving who?” We CALL them elected Representatives, but who do they really serve? Emphasis mine:

“Mr. Speaker, I was sent here not to make Government a special interest group with special exemptions, but to make the Government live by the same rules as everyone else.” – Rep. Paul Terry, NH House speech, February 23, 2021

Although I haven’t been all that active lately, it is clear that the signs posed to us as Americans is that the Government, at all levels, is thinking of itself. The servants have become, more often than not, the masters. I pose to you that locally elected entity known as School Boards. They seek your votes to win their elections – and at least here in NH – they decide they are School Board members, not our elected Representatives. It’s clear, however, that this is just small pie stuff (although very aggravating at the local level).

And then, at the most dangerous heights, there is this. Unless you’ve been living under the proverbial bed of boulders for a while, it’s clear that our Federal Government critters of the Democrat / Administrative State have been planning their Resistance against the Trump Administration from the time it became apparent that Kacklin’ Kamala had as much of a chance of winning as someone trying to understand even one of her word salad speeches.

And they mean business.

Remember when Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Mark Milley announced that he had called his Chinese counterpart warning him about what PRESIDENT Trump (his Commander-in-Chief) might do? Yeah, protecting the Deep State over the Legal State. And lately, I’ve been reading about stories of pockets of anti-Trump partisans through almost every agency (after all, there’s a reason why Democrats are called “the Party of Government”) already plotting about how to NOT do what the President may order.

And then there’s this from Powerline that ties both together (emphasis mine):

Secretary Austin,

I write to express my concern that Pentagon officials are seeking to undermine President Trump’s incoming administration. It appears that partisans and obstructionists inside the Department of Defense are laying groundwork to defy or circumvent President Trump’s plans for both military and civil-service reform. These actions undermine civilian control of the military and our constitutional structure of government.

For example, media reports indicate that Pentagon officials have held meetings to strategize against President Trump’s defense agenda, while also promulgating false claims that the incoming administration plans to arbitrarily fire uniformed leaders. You also issued a message to the department the day after the election commenting that the military will follow “lawful orders” from the new president—a thinly veiled and baseless insinuation that President Trump will issue unlawful orders.

Similarly, the department has also attempted to preemptively obstruct President Trump’s plans for (badly needed) defense civil-service reform. Earlier this year, you released a memo on the “Integrity and Continuity of the Defense Career Civilian Workforce” to impede efforts to remove underperforming personnel and eliminate unnecessary positions. Comptroller Michael McCord also lectured the incoming administration about avoiding the “self-inflicted wound” of civil-service reform.

I have to observe that these actions and reports only prove the need for reform and fundamental change at the Department of Defense. And, of course, while inappropriate and annoying, these tactics are also useless because no action by the outgoing administration can limit the incoming president’s constitutional authority as commander-in-chief.

Please, therefore, knock off this nonsense and get on with the business of handing over the reins to the next administration.

Sincerely,

Tom Cotton
United States Senator

And remember, before he was US Senator Tom Cotton (and US Representative before that), he was a US Army Infantry Officer (101st Airborne), so he is familiar with “goings on.” However, even from his exalted position as a Senator, there will be those who will ignore him—and perhaps seek retribution.

This is the field of battle that will confront Trump come January 20. It seems the Left’s Jan. 6th has already begun. After all, isn’t this an Insurrection by the Deep Government against the REAL Government?

And make no mistake – we will ALL be forced to choose sides.
