This pedo allegation is, IFAIK, still unproven / not yet independently verified. But let’s assume it has evidence and legs. The Dems would face the choice of going with someone under a cloud of pedoville, or swapping him out last-minute. Both will create massive chaos on the Left:

OF COURSE there’s pedo in DC. I – and many others – have been speculating that pedo is one way that The Machine gets leverage over politicians. Why do you think so many – especially on the Right – come into office roaring like a lion but quickly turn meek and “go along to get along”? Whether it’s kompromat or a more direct “Nice <something you have>… be a shame if something happened to it”, leverage is all in DC (and states, and counties, and even cities/towns.

I am reminded of a scene from I, Claudius, a miniseries adaptation of a novel about that Roman emperor from youth to death. Claudius is lame and has a stutter, but unlike some portrayals he’s very sharp… but hides it for pure self-preservation. One time, he’s talking with Livia (IIRC his aunt and Augustus’ wife). They’re talking about something serious, and after a few minutes she says “I see you’ve lost your stutter…”, with ominous overtones as she realizes he’s not the idiot everyone thinks he is.
