Though it may feel like it for many of us, who knows where we rank among the most uncertain times in human history? Many civilizations have faced enormous levels of hostility and strife, our own as well during the Civil War, however the alarmist bells are clanging on both sides making essentially the same claim – we will no longer have our country or our democracy in the days to come no matter who wins the presidency. Yet the beauty of the United States and its Constitution is it was painstakingly fought for and crafted with one particularly unshakable thing in mind – the God who watches over us.
Watching the slow motion train wreck that is our culture war is enough to sink anyone into depression and apathy. Our country is intended to be united, it’s in the name, yet the divisions among us have only deepened and calcified over the past eight years. The list of divisions extends beyond Republicans vs. Democrats. We now have a seemingly endless supply of oppressor vs. oppressed tete a tetes: patriarchy vs. matriarchy, whiteness vs. people of color, heteronormative vs. LGBTQIA++, coastal elite vs. fly over state hill billies, globalists vs. nationalists, MAGA vs. never Trumpers, Israeli supporters vs. Palestinian supporters, main stream media vs. alternative, parents vs. school boards, ruling class vs. working class, non-Christians vs. Christians ad nauseum. Will it ever end?
Yes.
However it’s not likely to end any time soon. As we head down the final stretch of what both sides have deemed “the most important election in American history” each laying claim to the existential nature of the outcome, any student of American political history knows this is just another chapter. When we wake up on November 6th none of us will face any immediate aftermath. The streets won’t suddenly fill with Marxists and neo-Nazi’s battling it out with guns and knives, and even if some of that occurs it won’t be enough to derail us as a country any more than we are already.
The mainstream news will do its level best to ensure our “democracy” is in good hands, that voting was all legitimate and it was even more fair than the one in 2020 which we were told was the “freest and fairest election in US history” despite literally thousands of examples of fraud and dozens of people convicted for fraud. The alternative media will likely report on any and all instances of fraud, real or otherwise, because even they are susceptible to fake news. It simply comes with the territory now that we live in a post-truth America where truth is relative and tied more to one’s preferred narrative than to factually supported and evidence confirmed reality.
As the Good Book says, there is nothing new under the sun.
This is not the first civil war level election and likely won’t be the last. Politics has been nasty and bloody since Cain murdered Abel for better lobbying of the Almighty. Cultural collapse happened rather quickly once we were given the keys to the earthly kingdom when Noah realized the God who made the stars, moon, sky and seasons was about to change the climate on mankind of who He observed “…how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” (Genesis 6:5)
The same God still watches from Heaven as we argue and slander each other with vitriolic invectives impugning each other’s motives and denouncing one another’s worldviews. Patiently He waits as we build bombs with our tax dollars to have them dropped on innocent children around the world only to spend more tax dollars to have innocent babies murdered in our mother’s wombs. A nation of immigrants struggles to handle a migrant crisis with the love and care He expects of us yet the masters of the crisis neglect and ignore the homeless citizens who fought to protect this nation of immigrants. We are a nation of porn addicted liars and thieves pretending to be virtuous as we traffick humans at a rate greater than any time in history. Our children are being taught to hate this country, themselves and even their own lives enough to where they snap and shoot one another en masse. We produce and buy these stories with a manufactured precision and sell products to one another for watching.
As He waits patiently…
The Author of the greatest selling book of all-time tells us in His masterpiece, if we read it, that we are bent this way – all of us. The simple history of Israel alone is proof of it, yet we know it’s a global condition. From South America to Central America, East Asia to the Middle East, South Africa to the rest of the dark continent, Poland to Spain and all of North America we are littered with stories of warring tribes, political conquests, back stabbing royals and blood thirsty peasants revolting against one another. We don’t have a problem, we are the problem. We are a broken race shot through with just enough sense of the divine to know we were meant for so much more, yet we can never seem to attain it. Like Sisyphus we roll our stone away time and time again never finding rest.
Yet there is One who’s stone was rolled away and did find ultimate rest. His story is intimately intertwined with ours and the reason we have hope despite our tendency toward hopelessness. He was the One who started His ministry by turning water into wine so the marriage feast could party on. As a youth He schooled the teachers and as a teacher He revealed to us the depths of our depravity. As a man amidst a patriarchy He extended tenderness and mercy to women society was willing to stone. Despite being surrounded by fools, hot-heads and deceivers He patiently endured our lobbying Him for one more miracle like He was a magician or a sorcerer rather than God in the flesh come to save us from ourselves. Though we deserve His wrath He still offers us His gold in exchange for our filthy rags. The offer still stands, as least for a little while longer.
Is America still a republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all? Probably not in the spirit in which whoever wrote that intended. However this great experiment was always only a temporary one. It wasn’t meant to last for eternity.
The real government of the future is a monarchy and the King who rules it will return soon to claim His throne before all mankind. There will be no vote, nor lobbying, nor media messaging or bloody battle to be won. It’s already been won, with His blood and His blood alone. He is the only one who can say of love “greater love has no one than this: to lay one’s life down for one’s friends” (John 15:13) and walk the talk. The only one who can say “No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.” (John 10:18)
He can’t be bought. He can’t be black mailed. He can’t even be assassinated successfully.
He is the King of the Universe and the only one who can rule over this mess we call humanity.
So whatever your fears about the future are, just know, He will return soon for those who’ve put their trust in Him. Democrat or Republican, globalist or nationalist, communist or capitalist, Jew or gentile I hope to see you there.
